Standard non lighted floor head very noisy and vibrates

Easy handling, all good except the boost vacuum function. When you use the boost function it is super noisy and run out of battery in only 15 minutes, while total charging time is more than 3 hour and a half.

Decided to upgrade to the Gen5 after using a number of smaller Dyson vacuum cleaners over many years. The Gen5 is a very efficient, has great suction and long usable power. The different heads certainly do their job.

Far more powerful than its predecessors. Far too many attachments and the instructions are woefully inadequate.

I purchased the Gen5 Detect last month, and as always, Dyson never fails to impress. On the positive side, I love being able to see the battery usage and the amount of dirt collected displayed on the screen. I’m also really enjoying the hard floor attachment—the green light is excellent at spotting pet hair and genuinely makes you want to vacuum every time. On the downside, the unit is quite heavy. With the Digital Motorbar attachment, I find the rubber strip on the other side annoying and makes it challenging to push the unit back and forth. The machine would also feel lighter if the dusting and crevice tools were separate attachments rather than built into the same stick. When not in use, it tends to get dirty since it’s always exposed. My opinions are based on having previously owned a Dyson V11. Despite these minor drawbacks, I’m still a fan overall. Dyson works really well for us, especially since we have pets.

We bought this Dyson vacuum a month ago to replace our V8 model, as it was not enough powerful. I love Gen5Detect. It is powerful, has all the attachments I need and a standing accessories stand, which is important as I didn't want to screw anything to the wall. It is a bit heavy, but I understand that the engine should be more powerful to clean that good. I am still to figure out how to deal with the bedroom carpet - it is very fluffy and the vacuum stops after 30 seconds of roaring, can't go forward. All other short carpets are fine. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase.

Troubleshooting steps taken (part 1): Before reaching out for support, every reasonable step was taken to rule out simple issues. • Swapped in a second, fully charged battery and confirmed the charger lights indicated both batteries were healthy. • Power‑cycled the vacuum by removing the battery for a few minutes, then retesting in case of a minor software or control‑board glitch. • Completely emptied and cleared the bin, inlet, wand, neck, and cleaner head so that all air passages and cyclones were visibly unobstructed. • Washed and fully dried the pre‑filter according to the manual before reinstalling and testing again. Troubleshooting steps taken (part 2) Manufacturer support response: Support was contacted with the serial number and a clear description of the issue: fully charged battery, black screen, and the machine shutting down after ~3 seconds of runtime. After working through their scripted troubleshooting, nothing improved, and the only explanation given was that the unit was outside the standard 2‑year cordless warranty, so no repair or goodwill replacement would be offered. The only option presented was purchasing a new main body/cyclone assembly at roughly the cost of $350, which essentially means buying the heart of the machine again just 2.5 years after the original purchase. Troubleshooting steps taken (part 3): In an effort to avoid throwing away such an expensive product, the vacuum was completely disassembled down to individual components using precision screwdrivers, a process that took several hours and multiple trips for tools. Every part was thoroughly cleaned, left to dry overnight, and then reassembled, yet the exact same behavior persisted the next day: black screen and shutdown after ~3 seconds of operation. Overall assessment At this point, the most likely culprit appears to be a failed control board/PCB or related internal electronics, which are not realistically user‑serviceable. For a premium vacuum at this price point, a major, non‑repairable failure after only 2.5 years of light use, and a support experience that offers only an expensive core‑part purchase, feels extremely disappointing and erodes confidence in the brand.

I bought the Dyson gen5 a few weeks ago. Absolutely love it. The green light ensures you are not missing any stray pet hairs. The suction is amazing. It is lite weight enough that my 6, 8 and 10 year old can use it without difficulty. The attachments are so easy to use. No fumbling to add for the small crevice just remove the vacuum head with a click of a button. My 8 year old said its too noisy when its on the highest setting. The only downside is the battery life. I wish it could last longer. I have a 3000 sq ft house and I have to recharge it once I finish one floor before starting on the second floor. If I use the highest suction power I can't finish my upstairs before the battery needs to be recharged.

I am very happy with this purchase. I was sceptical about stick vacuums having only used the Dyson ball vacuum for years (which is great also). The laser light that shows up all the dust/dirt is amazing - I can easily see where I may have missed. I do prefer my previous ball Dyson for getting dirt out of corners but all in all - its fantastic. I start vacuuming 1 room and end up doing the whole house as its so quick and easy to use.

My first Dyson and I’m hooked. It’s fantastic for hard floors.

I bought a Dyson SV23 Gen5 Detect Absolute during the Black Friday sales, bundled with a detail cleaning kit, at well below 50% of the combined recommended retail price. At that price, it was a bargain - a premium stick vacuum at the usual cost of an average machine. I've been very impressed with its suction power and performance, especially on carpet. Upgrading from a 15½ year old Dyson DC23 canister model (which still works fine but just doesn't match the performance of modern cordless models). I'm also very happy with its manoeuvrability, even though it's one of the heavier stick vacuums out there. My only criticism is the poorly designed mechanism used to clip the mounting bracket of the wall dock into its backing plate - it goes on just fine, but if you ever need to remove the dock (eg. moving it to different room or another home) it takes way too much force to push the plastic tangs back over the plastic lugs. All of this is completely inaccessible after you have mounted the dock onto the wall. I read about this problem on the web before purchase, so I was able to fix the problem by filing 1 or 2 mm of plastic off each of the two lugs before mounting the dock. This shouldn't be necessary when you purchase a premium vac.

Have been using our Gen5 for a couple of months. We did a fair amount of research before we made our purchase. Performance wise it is fantastic, manoeuvrability is also exceptional. The battery life is about 30 minutes but it does take at least 3 hours to fully recharge which is not really a problem. It is very easy to empty and overall we are very happy with our choice. The only comment I would make is that we find it a bit heavy when vacuuming carpet and when we use an attachment, it is heavy to hold. I should add this did not come as a surprise as we knew this when testing the machine at the retailer, and we still bought it because of the superior performance compared to it's competitors.

When I ordered this vacuum I thought I ordered the v15? I don’t understand how I made a mistake but this one came and I used it. The positive is I love the light to see the dust you don’t otherwise see, scary…lol It’s pretty light, no button to hold while I vacuum everywhere. And as I have arthritis essential for me. Looks nice not that that’s a selling point to me, but it never hurts, it leaves my carpets with ice lines lol Negative… expensive, you have to change heads from hard floor to carpets, and that is hard as my fingers are twisting and it’s not easy for me. It doesn’t sterilise like the V15 which was what I wanted… Overall if I was going to buy again, I wouldn’t go with this model. That’s me personally..

We bought this in the Black Friday sales. The light is both helpful and disturbing at the same time - good to see the difference the vacuum makes. Prefer the option of a ‘trigger’ power button as enables you to vacuum one handed. Sometimes it still pushes items around the floor rather than vacuuming.

I bought this a few days ago and it’s not as powerful as I had thought and read. Hair on the carpet don’t get picked up. Also it doesn’t run on silk carpets and gets stuck. Hardwood floors are easy to clean.

This is an excellent vacuum cleaner!! Do not have any doubts about purchasing it because it is brilliant! Completely and utterly recommend 100%.

I love the convinence of the wand/brush inside for cleaning the couch , and I never realized all that accumalates all the floors, that light is awesome.
