The 8+ age rating is a guideline for parents to use in deciding if the pottery wheel is age appropriate for their child. Certainly younger children can use the Mini Pottery Wheel to test and develop their skills with practice and adult supervision.

Great toy for young girls who likes craft
It is so fun to play it with my daughter. It is pretty easy and quickly for my 8yr old daughter to get a hang of it, no frustrations. The outcome after drying is not super refined like a real pottery work but it’s cute enough for a fun activity without so much mess. Only thing we dislike is the 3 paint colors comes with the kit, are not the prettiest colors, but we have more paints at home to use, so it is fine.

Great introduction to pottery
My seven year old loves this. It comes with good instructions and video links that teach how to use it pretty well. The small scale size made it easy for her to learn how the clay works and if she made a mistake it was easy enough for her to reset and try again. After the first project she could do everything completely on her own. The guide to perfectly center the clay is a huge help for a novice. I have little to no experience with pottery wheels and I had fun with it as well. As a result she’s learned a lot of elementary pottery skills. She learned to use the sponge to smooth the clay and to go slowly with the tools to take little bits off so it’s not rough and jagged. It doesn’t come with a ton of clay. Maybe enough for about six projects but that sort of clay is easy enough to pick up at any craft store.
