  • A: Autistic people don't look a certain way. The doll is showing representation of someone that is on the spectrum such as the headphones, AAC device and a fidget accessory in hand.

  • A: Developed over 18 months in collaboration with the Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN), the doll features design elements to authentically reflect some autistic experiences. These include a slightly averted gaze, more flexible elbows and wrists to facilitate stimming, a pink fidget spinner, noise-cancelling headphones, and a symbol-based Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tablet. The doll also wears a loose-fitting dress and flat shoes, addressing common sensory discomforts. Advocates and parents have welcomed the doll, noting its potential to help children with autism feel represented and foster important conversations about neurodiversity. While UK educators and advocates praised the increased visibility, they underscored that autism is a spectrum and no single doll can encompass all autistic traits.

  • A: The shifted gaze is the big giveaway. The doll is not making eye contact. Huge trait of someone with Autism. That’s what I love about this. But also….. adding a few items that one on the spectrum could commonly use. I ordered one and we already received it. My son has Autism and can relate to the doll wearing headphones and communicating with an AAC device. He doesn’t use a fidget spinner - but I’m not going to get bent out of shape over that. I’m very happy with it. 😄

  • A: please be so fr oh my god. autistic people do not have a certain look, she has her tools. her AAC board that can assist autistics w communication, her fidget ring because we love having sensory tools with us, and her noise cancelling headphones because life is too loud for us. this doll was created in collaboration with a non profit organization led by autistic people, so i'm positive they know what they're doing. there is no way to create a doll that can cover autism perfectly as autism is a spectrum, but giving her different tools can cover a broad amount of autistic individuals.

We LOVE Her!!!! #autismbarbie

Lots of people have opinions on this Barbie but for us, we love her! My autistic daughter loves Barbie and it's good for her to see herself represented in the toys she plays with.

Perfect bday gift

First time ever buying a barbie. Growing up i never related to any barbie so I had no interest in them but seeing this one made me tear up. This is exactly how the world sees my nonverbal kiddo. I dont understand the backlash to this but this seriously means alot of us. We will be gifting this barbie to our little one on her bday in May.

Inclusive

I bought this for my daughter who’s on the spectrum. When she read the word ‘Autism’ she got sooo excited and ran to tell her dad that they made a special needs Barbie just like her! Great job Mattel. Everything about the doll to the accessories and clothing is of great quality. Highly recommend.

Great representation

I loved it so much I bought one for my daughter too 😂 initially I bought it in secret for myself because I was scared it would sell out, but after I secured one I got hers the next day.

mattel hit the mark on this. I've been truly disheartened to see the amount of people griping online about this, but if you look at who is doing the complaining, it is people that clearly do not love or care for anyone who is autistic. ironically you can tell most of them are miserable and old. lol We have people complaining that autism doesn't have a look well that is true but Autism comes with a wide range of supports that people need daily and accommodations for many to be able to have a voice. I see this no differently than the Barbie, who is diabetic or the Barbie, who is blind and has a walking stick. I hope Mattel will not listen to the people who complain and will continue to do things like this. Maybe even coming out with more accessories that are sensory friendly depicting. I hope the doll will also get people talking who are not autistic and will be a good way to open up a conversation and learn.

I am happy. I am Autistic and this is what I always wanted.

As a Puerto Rican Autistic woman who uses fidget toys and noise cancelling earbuds this makes me happy. I love her. Mattel's first Autistic doll was actually Twyla from G3 Monster High. I have her, I love her and she's great, but her Autism was more subtle. This Barbie doll is more in your face about it. I'm going to have my Barbie and my Twyla have a tea party together. I gotta figure out what I want to name my new Barbie too.

Great representation

As a mother of an autistic daughter, this Barbie makes my heart happy. My daughter wears her headphones when the world around her is too loud or when she needs some extra sensory pressure on her ears. My daughter also is soon getting her AAC device. This doll represents what autism can look like for many girls! We must not forget many girls are often misdiagnosed or overlooked because they are girls. Thank you Mattel!

I love Barbie and how this doll drives inclusion, representation, and awareness. I love that she has flexible wrists, elbows, and arms to support stimming, and comes with three accessories—an AAC device, headphones, and a fidget toy. It’s a powerful way to highlight just a few things that could benefit some people on the spectrum. Most importantly, it encourages conversation, acceptance, and curiosity about the many ways Autism can show up—or not be noticeable—because everyone is different.

I absolutely love this Barbie. Yes autism is a huge spectrum and not all can be represented by one doll which is absolutely ok. I love it and I’m so glad that they actually can out with one.

She Looks Just Like My Daughter!

I absolutely love this Barbie. She looks so much like my daughter, and seeing that representation honestly made my heart so happy. My child felt seen and excited in a way I haven’t experienced with toys before. Thank you for creating a Barbie that celebrates differences and helps kids feel proud of who they are. This one truly means a lot to our family. 💜
