A: as a professional potter, toy wheels never have enough weight or torque to actually work properly. better to use the $50 for a one time class with a real pottery wheel, it will be more fun

A: Yes, the spinning platform on the pottery wheel can be lifted off for cleaning. While detailed cleaning instructions are included in the manual, we recommend wiping the platform with a damp sponge or cloth. Also, do not submerge the pottery wheel in water when cleaning. Thank you

Cute, but could probably do without
The wheel spins but if you put any sort of pressure on the clay, the wheel stops spinning. It's definitely not a professional wheel, but I think it does ok for the $40 price point. My daughter (8) loves it, but honestly we could probably get the same creation without the wheel - just buy air dry clay and use lots of water to mold. I think this adds a little extra fun, but I probably wouldn't recommend or buy another. Cute concept!

This was a gift to my daughter. It is a really neat product that allows children and adults to experience an element of art that you normally wouldn’t get to do at home. We enjoyed doing it together. It takes some time and patience and an adult does need to constantly supervise. Also, I do not recommend doing this indoors as the wet clay splattered in a thousand specks on the chair, countertop and floor and there’s not a realistic way to protect any area within 6-10ft. Just be prepared to do this activity outdoors if possible.

Beautiful concept, my son wanted to put his pottery lessons into practice, so we gave him this as a birthday present. He spent the whole afternoon trying to enjoy his gift, but the clay was difficult to work with and the motor is weak, as other reviews have mentioned. I thought they had just been unlucky and decided to give it a try ourselves. It disappointed us.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] it’s a fun, entry-level pottery kit that can spark creativity for kids (and beginners) by letting them play around with clay, shape small vessels, and decorate projects in a contained, mess-friendly package — but it’s really more “toy” than real pottery gear. The wheel often lacks enough motor power or torque to properly spin once you apply pressure with clay, so many users report that it stalls, slows or doesn’t turn at all under even light pressure.  In short: it’s fine for light, playful clay play and arts-and-crafts use (especially for kids), but you shouldn’t expect it to perform anything like a studio pottery wheel — it’s not ideal if you want to make functional pottery or learn “real” wheel-throwing technique.

From the moment we set it up, she was completely focused, shaping and molding the clay with so much excitement. The wheel was easy for her to control, and she quickly got the hang of it. She ended up making the cutest little pottery vase and she is so proud of her creation! I loved seeing her creativity come to life and how much fun she had experimenting. It’s a fantastic, hands on toy that really inspires imagination and artistic confidence.

Fun, enjoyable activity for kids ages 5 and up

My 6 year old was very exited to try the clay wheel. It does take some practice to make a clay pot, but the process is fun. It is also good for fine motor skill development. And honesty, it is just a fun activity to do with your kid. We enjoyed spending time over clay modeling.

Good for kids
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Cute little pottery wheel for kids. The motor seems to be a little bit weak as you have to use very light pressure which makes it take forever. That being said my kids all really enjoyed it and it’s about having fun and making memories. The tools that came with work well and you get 5lbs of clay which is great. Instructions are easy to understand. It also has the option of battery power or electric which is nice.

Okay for super beginners
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have always wanted to try to make pottery but we don’t have any pottery studios in my area. So when I had the opportunity to get this for free in exchange for my honest review, it was a no brainer (although I told my husband I got it for the kids). It took awhile to make everything the right consistency - not too sticky or too slippery - but after I got it figured out I had fun (I guess the kids did too).

This obviously isn’t going to create quality pottery, but it was certainly good enough to make a couple of cute pieces. It would be nice if the machine spun a little faster so a person could control the clay a little better, but that was our only complaint.
