Color without compromise. Introducing Excellence Universal Nudes, permanent hair color with 100% gray coverage and no ammonia, no parabens, no phthalates, and no mineral oil. Excellence Nudes Ammonia Free Hair Color enhances your natural hair color, with a blend of cool and warm reflects for long-lasting permanent gray coverage. The Triple Care Color Routine results in rich, radiant, natural looking brown hair color and offers 100% gray coverage. The Ammonia Free Hair Dye Caring Color Creme is enriched with Pro-Keratin Complex and caring agents to protect that hair as it colors. After coloring with brown hair dye, follow with the Caring Gentle Shampoo to delicately cleanse the scalp and smooth hair and the Caring Deep Conditioner, infused with Ceramides, to nourish hair without weighing it down.
Instructions vary by shade. Follow the complete instructions included inside the packaging.
How to use for the first time:
Apply All Over. Apply hair color mixture to dry, unwashed hair. Apply color at your root area and through ends until completely saturated.
Leave on for 25 minutes.
Rinse-out until water runs clear.
Condition. Apply enough Color & Shine Conditioner to thoroughly saturate hair and leave on for 2-3 minutes. Rinse.
How to touch up roots:
Touch up root area first. Make ¼” partings through dry, unwashed hair with applicator tip. Apply hair color mixture onto new growth root area only until completely saturated. Leave color on new growth root area for 20 minutes. TIP: For resistant grays, leave on for an additional 5 minutes.
Apply to rest of hair. Apple remaining product to rest of hair to refresh color. Let develop for 5 minutes. Total application time is 25 minutes.
Rinse-out until water runs clear.
Condition. Apply enough Color & Shine Conditioner to thoroughly saturate hair and leave on for 2-3 minutes. Rinse.

Preference and Excellence are both permanent hair colors. Excellence is a crème color that provides 100% gray coverage. Preference is a liquid gel color that provides fade-defying, luminous color for up to 8 weeks. For multi-dimensional, salon-inspired results, we recommend using Preference. To cover resistant grays, we recommend using Excellence.

Very Disappointed. Hair is almost black.
The color on the box is very misleading. I have used other L'Oreal hair dye products and have always been very happy with the results. I wanted to try anothe L'Oreal product. I used 5N and my hair looks almost black. It was a light to medium brown before I dyed it. I will never use the L'Oreal color preference again and will not recommend to anyone.

We know how disappointing it can be to look forward to a new application of color only to find that your results are not what you expected. There are many reasons why haircolor results can come out too dark. Once you have color-treated hair, we suggest following the touch up application method to achieve optimal results. Otherwise, by doing full head application, due to the porosity of the color-treated hair, you are left with a haircolor result that is much darker than intended. The color will fade as you shampoo. We appreciate the feedback which will be shared with others in our company.

I LOVE this product
I used 6N - natural light brown. I've used Excellence & Preference before, but this was the first time I saw the Nudes collection. I love everything about it. It smelled great, I love the shampoo and conditioner. (I wish they'd sell that separately) My natural color is lt. brown with about 30% gray. This covered my grays well, except a few at my temple, but that looks natural. My hair turned out only slightly darker than light brown. I've been coloring my hair for decades. I know that I always need to use a color lighter than what I want. To get light brown, I usually have to use dark blonde. Not just with Loreal, with other brands as well. If my hair comes out too dark, I found using Head and Shoulders Apple Cider Vinegar shampoo lighten it within 2 or 3 washes but doesn't damage my hair like color removers do. I intend to keep using this product - my hair feels softer than when I used products with ammonia.

Way too dark
I am having the same experience as one of the reviewers. My hair is medium brown. I used 5 N and it turned almost black. Way too dark and not what was on box. I followed the instructions. I never experienced this with any other products.

The natural brown looks nothing like the image on the box. I am natural brown so I only got it to cover grays, which dyed my hair black!

We know how disappointing it can be to look forward to a new application of color only to find that your results are not what you expected. There are many reasons why haircolor results can come out too dark. Once you have color-treated hair, we suggest following the touch up application method to achieve optimal results. Otherwise, by doing repeat full head applications, due to the hair's porosity, you are left with a haircolor result that is much darker than what you intended. 5N universal nude brown turned my hair Inky BLACK!
Loved the color on the box so thought I would try. Don’t know if bad batch of hair color or what, but turned my hair completely Black, very dark inky black . (My hair color was very light brown with gray roots ). I’ve never had black hair in my life, I’m just at a loss on how to fix this that won’t cost me a small fortune,

VERY damaging
I really liked this color. It was a little dark at first but similar to the box. The problem is very little gray coverage and it is extremely damaging. I tried every conditioner on the market before I realize it was this hair color that was destroying my hair.

Best move to L'Oreal ever
Absolutely love this color! I had done Garnier for years and then they discontinued my color. Their medium neutral brown almost turned my hair black and then with washes turned into a muddy gross color. I was devastated. I never used L’Oreal before and fell in love with the color on this box. Even tho my hair held on to some darkness which I anticipated - it is the most BEAUTIFUL color and in natural light VERY close to the box. I couldn’t be happier. I found the one!
