A Classic Ruined by a Faulty Redesign
Mousetrap (Modern Version) – 2 Stars Overview Mousetrap was one of my favorite games as a kid, so I was excited to introduce it to my own children. Unfortunately, this newer version is a major letdown. While my 5- and 3-year-olds still have fun with the idea of it, the signature trap mechanism—the whole point of the game—hardly ever works properly. Pros • Nostalgic theme that still appeals to kids • My children enjoy the general concept and visuals • The idea of allowing multiple “catches” is clever in theory Cons • The trap mechanism fails more often than not • Most common failure: the bucket arm doesn’t unlatch • Other frequent issues: ball doesn’t make it to the bucket, bucket gets stuck on the ramp, or the ball doesn’t transfer to the upper ramp • I’ve checked the setup multiple times—it’s installed correctly • The new design has players build the full trap at the start, which takes away from the original charm of building it piece-by-piece during gameplay Conclusion This version of Mousetrap misses the mark. I understand the intent behind the redesign, but it’s frustrating when the central feature of the game—the trap—doesn’t function reliably. It takes the fun out of what should be the most exciting part. Not a fan, and honestly, I’d return it if I could.

Cheaply made. You get what you pay for.
Adult assembly is definitely require to set this up. It's not as durable as the other version that we have. Two of the plastic pieces broke off completely while disassembling, to put away. I was very careful not to break them but they broke anyway. Very cheaply made. But I got it on sale for less than $8 and my kids love it. So I'll use pliers and super glue to hopefully mend the issue.

Not as complicated as when I was a kid
I am not a fan of the 'updated' versions of most games, though this one is pretty decent. Not too hard to assemble and is accurate aim. The only thing I am not a fan of is how it feels like the pieces are going to break when disassembling. I can't keep it all together all the time for lack of space. Unfortunately, the one bigger piece feels like it will break if I snap it apart so it has to sit in a different place while not in use.

I just got this game for my kids, and I'm really considering returning it. The setup is beyond annoying. There are so many pieces to put together... daunting. once it's all set up, one little bump, and you'll have to fix it all. The diver is always falling. The cage is hard to balance. And the you pull the boot back to activate the trap is a joke. It took us multiple tries to get it to work. And after all of that, when you're done playing you have to breakdown most of the pieces to get it to fit back in the box. You know, as I'm wrapping up this review, I've decided to take it back.

Don't buy
We have kids with large age gaps and I’ve been looking for games our 6yr can play with older siblings that aren’t so “babyish”. This game is NOT it. I knew what I was getting into as far as set up goes. The lands in the gutter instead of the bucket 90% of the time. The slightest bump of the board or table send the trap spiraling down. This leads to the 6yr trying to reset it (and failing because those fine motor skills are still developing) and the older kids loosing patience. 20 minutes in and they are only 1/4 of the way around the board and the kids are fighting. I’m returning this and never playing again ever.
