Too depressing and traumatic
DNF'D at 8% FYI: If you are like me and don't enjoy dark, depressing stories full of abuse and trauma, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK! I bought Alchemised on release day due to all the hype about it all over social media. Admittedly, I didn't do enough research beforehand otherwise I wouldn't have purchased it. I cannot give a thorough review, given that I abandoned the book so early on. Here's what I can say though: I went into the story expecting a fantasy romance with alchemy, necromancy with some gothic vibes. I was looking for more Anathema vs Hemlock & Silver and less Handmaid's Tale. Instead, I was presented with a dystopian, oppressive story about an alchemist POW. The overall tone of what I read was quite depressing, and I don't enjoy feeling depressed.

Broken and rebuilt again
I feel like I waited with baited breath for this book to come out. And it was absolutely worth the wait! The beginning can be a little intimidating with getting familiar with the world and the characters but once you get caught up, the story is superb and heartbreaking in the best way. You will feel broken into pieces throughout the story and then Sen will put you back together kintsugi gold style with beauty in the cracks left behind.
