This is dirt they hauled of a lot somewhere
Purchased two bags of this soil today. Opened the first one to use planting some flowers. I took out about the top eighth of the bag to use in planting. Quickly discovered it was full of large pieces of wood, I mean large. Also, a couple of pieces of plastic. What there wasn’t was any sign of any kind of moisture control or fertilizer for the plants. This is plain old ordinary dirt, and not even good dirt. Very upset that I spent money on this product.

We are concerned to hear this. We would like the opportunity to gather some additional information and offer assistance. Please reach out to our Consumer Services team at 888-295-6902 for assistance. Some small pieces of back and twigs are intentional components of our growing media. Most of our soils, especially potting mixes and garden soils, are made of composted forest products and contain very little, if any, soil. This provides high organic content and nutrients without the concern for soil compaction.

Quality Control Issues?
I have bought 6 bags of this product recently. Two of the bags contained numerous rocks, sticks, pieces of plastic bag material, and even 1 large plastic plant tag.

Miracle-Gro Garden Soil for Flowers is intended to augment existing in-ground soil and is too dense for use in container plants. We recommend using a potting mix instead. Reach out to us here for further assistance: https://tinyurl.com/y9nlw5xl

Good Product
This soil is for planting plants in your garden - not for planting in raised beds or containers. They have specific soil for that. But as far an all purpose garden soil goes, this product does the trick. I use it most for planting perennials and small flowering shrubs. Remember to mix it in with your native soil at a 50/50 rate. I add it to each planting hole and sprinkle in a little Espoma Bio-tone to enhance rooting, mix it well with the native soil, and plant my plants. It works well for that use.

Don't expect this to fertilize anything
I bought many hundreds of dollars of this "purple" bag Garden Soil and Raised Bed soils. I used it in freshly made raised beds AND also in grow bags cause I didn't want too light of a soil for the bags... Just one small raised bed took 10 bags and...and I have a several other beds that I started and plantings in grow bags. MISTAKE. My plants with this soil...veggies and flowers...just sat there...barely grew AND after a few weeks they all showed signs of nitrogen deficiency. It is marketed to "fertilize" up to 90 days. I honestly do not think the fertilizer part is effective at all in any of the soil I purchased of this brand. I did wonder...is it only good for 90 days AFTER bagged or 90 days after planting. I'd say less than a few weeks. I am a old gardener and grow most of my food for at least 50+ years. This is NOT dependable for fertilization and I'm not sure if it is helpful with moisture control. When I started noticing a problem I went to another brand and not a bit of a problem with my starts or direct seeding. SO I have had to resort to supplementing fertilizers and all the signs of nitrogen deficiency have gone and plants are growing. NOW I learned not to buy more expensive soils with "fertilizer" and just buy the bargain stuff and add my own fertilizer and not depend on such as this.

Not recommended - only about 7% results.
I used about 65 bags of this soil. One thing I discovered is that most the of bags contain a light colored dry caked material I had to break up to get it to spread. And a few of the bags contained very moist darker soil that scooped up more like manure. After a couple of weeks, the seeds I planted are going nowhere in the lighter colored soil. However the darker/moister soil is producing seed sprouts. My seeds are sprouting only in the darker soil. I'm getting nothing in the lighter soil - which is about 95% of my soil. I'm very disappointed in the results (basically no results). I uploaded a photo showing the darker/moister soil next to the lighter/dryer soil. You can plainly see the only seeds that are sprouting are in the darker soil. I don't recommend this product unless you can find the darker/moister soil. They seem very rare - about 1 out of 15 bags. I'm not sure why they're different or why the more rare darker soil is the only soil that works. It would seem to me that Miracle Gro would make all the soil of the same formula. My only success (about 7%) is from the darker soil. I don't recommend this product.

Excellent product,retaians moisture well
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product controls moisture very well even during hot weather. Plants thrive in the pre - fertilized soil mixture. I have not fertilized my flowers since planted and they are twice as big or more than others on the street. Soil is very rich and has no odor. I will use this soil every year for my flowers and recommend it to family and friends.

Not soil, it's coarse woody compost
This is really mislabeled and not suitable for potting soil. It's more like mulch. It's a smelly mixture of coarsely composed wood and the one bag I opened had flakes of plastic bags. I had to mixing the contents of this bag with some of my own compost and garden soil.

Overall good product
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice light weight, but not too light soil. Color is a nice black. The soil does turn grey when dry. Could be bad if soul is used in an application where you want it to be seen.

Working well
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The flower garden soil was a rich dark color and has provided us with good flower growth and color. One recommendation is to put the info that it should not be used in pots nearer the top of the directions although it seems to be working in the pots also.
