About the Author



Peter Samuelson was the kid in tenth grade who laughed at the English teacher who told him he should go to college. He is now a celebrated movie producer and serial pro-social entrepreneur. In 1982 he co-founded the Starlight Children's Foundation, then in 1992 Starbright World, co-founded with Steven Spielberg. 1999 saw the formation of First Star; 2005, EDAR Everyone Deserves a Roof; and in 2013, he launched ASPIRE, the Academy for Social Purpose in Responsible Entertainment. In the midst of this Peter has produced twenty-seven films and raised four children. Educated at Cambridge University on scholarship and the Anderson School of Management at UCLA, Peter lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Saryl, and continues to fight every day for those less fortunate, chief among them abused and neglected children. He really did nearly die trying to rescue a kitten. And the kitten got away.

It's a pass.

It is just so much about this writer telling us how smart and fascinating he is. But he just thinks he's smart and fascinating. I give it a pass..any "brilliant" insight he has is old news.

So Good it Made Me Cry!

Finding Happy is so good it made me cry! Both a memoir and a practical guidebook, the real life examples beautifully illustrate what it means to live a purpose-driven life. And reminds us that happiness comes not from wealth or fame but from creating what matters, helping others and making smart use of one's life. Peter Samuelson has very clearly done just that. But more importantly, has helped so many young adults benefit and/or learn how to pay it forward. The stories he shares are inspiring and actionable! A must read for young and old alike. As it is never too late to find your happy.

Fascinating Read!

I thoroughly enjoyed this unusual book. “Finding Happy” is a series of fascinating vignettes from the life of the author, a successful film producer, philanthropist and social entrepreneur. His experiences (positive and negative) aim to serve as a guide for teens and young adults. However, there is much here to learn and enjoy as well for all ages. Throughout these autobiographical sketches, one finds an entrepreneur who has taken life by the horns, overcoming obstacles with thoughtful planning, cunning, and determination (although one of his lessons is how to recognize when it is time to throw in the towel). Bringing these qualities to bear in the nonprofit sector, the author has organized (and enlisted others to organize) a number of highly successful charities. His efforts in this regard are the unifying theme of the book. The key to ‘finding happy,” he teaches, is to empathize with those in need and to hone one’s skills to help them.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!

What a wonderful book for younger people and people much older. Great advice given with empathy, and what a wonderful voice. You don't have to read it from page one to the end; look in the table of contents and read what may be relevant to you now. Some parts make you laugh out loud and others may bring more than a tear to your eyes. If you have children or work with children of any age or if you want to be a better person, this is the book for you.
