Book Synopsis

The legendary "Far Memory" novel of Ancient Egypt, "a book of fine idealism, deep compassion, and a spiritual quality pure and bright as flame" (New York Times).

Long before "past-life regression" became a modern phenomenon, Joan Grant captivated the world with Winged Pharaoh.

This is the extraordinary story of Sekeeta, a daughter of the Pharaoh in the First Dynasty of Egypt. More than a work of historical fiction, Grant maintained the book was a personal recollection--a "far memory"--of a life she had lived thousands of years ago.

Sekeeta is born into a world of vibrant color, high stakes, and deep spiritual discipline. Recognizing her innate psychic gifts, her father sends her to the Temple to be trained as a Priestess of Anubis. There, she masters the "Boat of Time," learning to navigate the realms of dreams and the afterlife. Upon the death of her father and her brother's ascension, Sekeeta becomes a "Winged Pharaoh"--a rare ruler who possesses both the flail of justice and the wings of extra-sensory perception.

From the rigors of temple initiation to the heartbreak of war and the serene wisdom of the afterlife, Winged Pharaoh offers a vivid, immersive journey into the soul of Egypt. It remains a masterpiece of metaphysical literature, praised for its historical detail and its timeless exploration of the continuity of the human spirit.

The most famous of Joan Grant's Far Memory novels, this book brings the grandeur, beauty, and mystery of ancient Egypt to life.

About the Author

Joan Grant (1907-1989) was an English author whose life and work blurred the lines between fiction and autobiography. She rose to international fame in 1937 with the publication of Winged Pharaoh, the first of her seven "Far Memory" novels. Grant claimed that these books were not imagined, but were instead vivid recollections of her own previous incarnations, retrieved through a process she called "far memory."

Born into an affluent Edwardian family, Grant's psychic sensitivities were evident from childhood. She spent years traveling and working on archaeological digs in Egypt with her first husband, experiences that served as the backdrop for her breakthrough work. Throughout her life, she remained a steadfast advocate for the reality of reincarnation, collaborating with psychiatrists to use past-life memory as a tool for healing. Her "Far Memory" series--including Life as Carola and Eyes of Horus--remains in print decades after her death, continuing to inspire readers with its detailed historical veracity and profound spiritual insight.
