Book Synopsis
Brought back into the literary spotlight, this classic novella of yearning and heartbreak is presented here in an elegant pocket hardback edition with silver gilded page edges.
A timeless tale of unrequited love, 'White Nights' follows the adventures of a lonely young man who meets the beautiful Nastenka one night in Saint Petersburg. The following nights see them strike up a friendship and venture around the city while having conversations that still thrill readers and ring true today.
Also included in this brilliant collection is 'A Faint Heart', another one of Dostoevsky's earlier short stories, and 'The Dream of a Ridiculous Man'. Packed with introspection and unique insights into the complexities of the human mind, these tales are as eye-opening as when they were first written.
About the Author
Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821-81) was one of Russia's foremost writers, producing novels, short stories, essays and philosophical texts. Born in Moscow, he initially trained as an engineer, spending his spare time translating books. The publication of his first book, Poor Folk, saw him enter the literary circles of St Petersburg, but he developed a gambling habit as he toured around Europe and then fell foul of the Russian authorities who sent him into exile in Siberia in 1849 for reading banned works. Crime and Punishment was the second novel that Dostoevsky wrote after he returned from exile and its serialization was considered a huge success, earning Dostoevsky many plaudits.
