Pristine clarity
I would characterise the sound of these headphones as pristine and clean. They are refined and elegant in the way that Swiss or German chocolate is refined or elegant. Reviews on them often point to the fact that they are lacking in bass. This is not true. I have them connected to a DAC, permanently wired to my computer. I have set the software EQ of the DAC to have enough bass to fill a troll's cavern. The bass will not drown out the refinement of the sound at the high end. There are moments, while listening to a song, where I would just go, "Oomph!", as the sound hits me. I've just had them for one week so, I'm still playing around with the different parameters. But, I've seen enough to know that my quest for perfect headphones can end here. It probably won't but.....it can. The reason why I haven't given them 5 stars is because they are not perfect. But, they are close.

Only headphone to Live By Human Morale Code!
Had it for 14 years and so far I love it! It's the only headphone that made me gain IQ by taking magic mushroom and I kid you not, I fell in love with humanity and myself! I only had to change ear pads and the top about 2 times and I need more OEM. I feel that the HD600 is one of the best warm headphones that reminds me of stars when I look at the marbles.

Absolutely the best headphones for the music purest. Bought the first pair 15 years ago. Since then tried all other top cans, these still the very best. What those German engineers developed 20 years ago, other are still trying to learn. Retired from the professional audio field after 30 years. You will love them!!

Love my new HD 600s
My new HD 600s are my first open-back headphones, having used the closed-back HD 380 Pros for many years. The 380s have great detail, nice bass, and flat response, and I still love them, but wanted a pair of open-backs too. So far, the 600s appear to have a similarly flat response, excellent bass, and have been a complete joy to wear for long periods. I found my ears tiring after a while with the closed-back 380s, but the 600's allow my ears to breath, allowing for longer listening sessions without fatigue. I use them only in my studio, so leakage isn't an issue for me. I almost opted for the HD 650's, but the 600's are tried and true and still fetch a high price, so Sennheiser obviously did something right with these. I'd highly recommend them to anyone needing a realistic representation of their sound, with added comfort. To be honest, I didn't know what I'd think about the straight cable, though, having had the HD 380's coiled cable for so long. The cable on the 600 appears durable, but is supple and soft to the touch, not stiff, and I've found that I actually like it better than the coiled cable, which tended to pull on me (and it is heavy). So for you coiled-cable users out there, don't let that deter you. I've adjusted quite nicely, and actually think I prefer it now, even the double sided connections, vs the single side on the 380s.

Good as always
I bought these as a replacement for my very old HD600s. After replacing one ear cup, I finally needed to replace the second and it seems they no longer sell replacements for the hardware - just the ear cushions and such. It was probably time for a new pair anyway. I wish they looked like the originals - not that I loved the marble pattern, but just for nostalgia's sake, but they still look nice. Most important, they still sound great. I have to turn the volume up on my preamp one notch more than before to get the same volume, but it sounds the same as I remember - my favorites. I use them with a Bottlehead Crack with Speedball and upgraded caps and a NOS Tung-Sol tube.

After reading many reviews of these headphones I decided take the plunge. So glad I did, still wearing them in but I am delighted with both the sound and the comfort of them. Highly recommend.

My favourite headphones
I got a pair in 2005 which i used daily for multiple hours till they fell apart from use in 2019 so i replaced them with a new pair of HD 600s which are going strong and look brand new after 3 years of daily use. Saw them on a sale massively reduced in price so i got a spare pair for when my 2019 pair give up the ghost in many years to come.

What more can be writtten about these headphones after 20+ years , incredibly detailed with great mid & vocals, I’m not a “bass head” so there is more than enough bass for me and I like the 3m cable length … definitely an upgrade on the B&O they have joined/replaced.

Let me explain. These have got to be the best headphones I have listened to yet. I have heard a good few like Bose, V-Moda, AKG, B&W. FiiO etc... But for realism and clarity; without colouration, nothing compares. If you're toying with purchasing. All I can say is just go for it.

A Friend recommended me the headset as one of the best out there. They are expensive but they do sound nice.
