Parts Missing

The model was fun to build with two glaring exceptions. First, all parts came in two big bags with smaller bags included in the big bags. This required two big bins to separate the big pieces from the small pieces. Much less convenient than the more sophisticated Technic models. Second, two large pieces of bodywork and two small soft pipe pieces were missing resulting in added expense and effort to order the pieces. I expect better from LEGO having built four of the large Technic kits.

Not my son’s best Lego experience

My 11 year old son loves Lego. The Land Rover was a present 2 years ago and since then he has bought the Peugeot, Mercedes F1 and now the Porsche 911, with his own money. It has been a great Lego experience until the 911. We ordered online and the box wasn’t in mint condition (some won’t care, but this is all part of the experience). The instruction book had the first page detached (some won’t care, but again, this is the experience) and unlike the other sets, the bags aren’t numbered so you have to open everything! This means Lego is scattered everywhere, there is a fear of losing pieces and build experience isn’t the usual brilliant Lego experience. I’d definitely recommend all his other Lego sets before this 911.

Bargain with a price

When it comes to Technic sets, this is one of those you MUST be willing to spend some extra time and brain power on. Comparing to a set like the Peugeot 9X8, the Porsche was more of an archaic adventure. 1st, none of the bags are sorted or numbered with the instructions. So you must open and hand sort all of your parts manually. 2nd, many of the instructions image examples were very tricky to see which resulted in the need to disassemble and flip back several pages to correct the misplace parts. 3rd, the overall completed build was decent but the mechanics don’t work right after completion. For example, the gears that connect the engine to the gear box grind when the car is rolled. Though when the wheels are hand spun, it appears to operate fine. For the price and part count, it’s clear why this set was so much less than the Peugeot. In comparison, the Peugeot was one of the most pleasurable and satisfying builds I’ve works on to date. This Porsche, it’s neat, cool looking when done but I would never do it again.

A glory to build and admire

As a Porsche enthusiast, this was such an enjoyable build. I hadn’t built a large Technic set for years and was seriously impressed with the quality, detail, technicality, and function of this car. I enjoyed every minute of constructing this iconic car and love admiring it every time I walk past it on display, the level of detail in this model is very impressive, especially the highly detailed stickers which add character and make it as real as possible. The rear differential, 6 cylinder boxer engine, steering setup and suspension mechanisms were a joy to put together and appreciate these more complex working parts. Highly recommend for any car enthusiast, looks awesome on display!

Its okay I guess?

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The building experience was easy, and its got nice parts. The completed build is nice with the suspension. I spent about 20 minutes pressing it down and watching it bounce back up. My only gripe is the back wheels. They grind up against the chassis and i had to modify it in a way the could be considered an illegal build technique in order to prevent that from happening. Also since the car is tilted forward, the front bumper grinds against the ground which in real life would probably make it a nightmare to go up a bad slope. Overall its a nice build though, enough so that i dug through my collection and built it again for kicks.

Thank you for your feedback on building and playing with the set! Sounds though like something isn't quite right! The wheels should turn freely and the front end should clear the ground. Feel free to give us a call or chat at LEGO.build/Service-BV so we can take a closer look!

Fun and Entertaining Build

Received this as a present, having had a significant gap from my previous Lego building days. I found this very enjoyable to put together. The instructions were excellent and helped to make an easy build. To help sort the pieces, I purchased a couple of plastic sectioned containers and sorted pieces in various types, i.e. types/shapes/colours, which made it much easier to locate the pieces, as well as keeping them contained. The only thing I would like now is get suggestions of how I could Power Up, as I am finding the Powered Up information to be a little confusing.

Parts bags not numbered

I would have neither the room or patience to dump ALL of the pieces into a pile, and then sort them.

We want the building experience to be challenging for expert LEGO® builders and that's why some of our sets don't have numbered bags. If you need a hand getting started, contact our brick experts at LEGO.build/Service-BV. They're a super helpful pit crew!

No Numbered Bags!

I would like to agree with the other recent reviews. We are 30 pages into the build and frustrated. We have pieces spread out all over a 3.5 x 8 foot dining table. Some pieces are in one bag and the remaining pieces of that size are in another. It is like Lego just threw random pieces in bags (10-12) with no purpose other that to have you spend all your time searching for pieces. How does one build this efficiently without a giant table. My son can’t reach the pieces so I walk around the table trying to find the pieces he needs. Very frustrating. I hope the Maclaren F1 car we just got him is not this way. Lego, you can do better for a car this expensive.

Overall a good build but I have some gripes

I did enjoy building this set. I like the functions like the functioning fake boxer engine but the thing that really surprised me is the fact that the set does not come with numbered bags. This made the building experience a little difficult as I had literally over a thousand pieces laid out on my desk and made it quite difficult to find smaller pieces, not to mention I was planning on building this set over two days but not having numbered bags made that very difficult. Another gripe I have, although I understand that this is quite rare is that I was missing a 13 hole black technic beam. This meant that I had to donate another beam from a different section of the car (luckily it was part of the underside, near the diffuser so it isn't obvious). Other than that I think this is a good build for anyone interested in building a large technic car.

Bags aren’t numbered… horrible build experience…

Bags aren’t numbered… so you spend as much time looking for parts as you do building… and the pieces in the bags aren’t organized in any discernible pattern, at least none that I cracked. It’s a frustrating build experience. And because the bags aren’t numbered there’s no natural breaks in the build… and you’re essentially left with open bags all over until you finish the whole assembly!
1 reply from LEGO® Customer Service team - 4 years ago
Thank you for your review. We've left out the numbers on some of our LEGO® Technic™ sets to make the builds more challenging. We're sorry we missed the mark this time around and hope your next build will be a better experience. If you're not sure whether a set comes with numbered bags or not, you can always ask our experts prior to purchase over at LEGO.build/Service-BV.

First car

This was my first time building a car, normally I stick to figures and scenes. I really enjoyed it. Frustrating that there were a few parts missing so I had to improvise with other pieces, meaning by the time I got to the end there were a few unstable bits. Having said that, it was a lot of fun and will look awesome once I clear a space for its massive frame!!

Lovely Racecar

This was the first Lego set I've bought in a long time, and I had a great time building it. In a lot of the pictures, the headlights look quite bulbous, and I was worried it would make the car look bug-eyed in person, but it's a lot less noticeable than I expected. Also, this thing is huge! I'm gonna have to buy a shelf for this. The main reason I gave it 4 stars was because this set didn't come with numbered bags for some reason. I know for a fact that pretty much every lego set for a while has come with numbered bags, so this made the build process much slower than it could have been, as I was sifting through every bag throughout. But overall, the finished product is awesome, and I'd give the beauty factor a 5-star rating. I think I've caught the Lego bug again, and more of these Technic builds are in my future for sure.

Frustrating Problems

It was a steady build if you take your time. I never let myself do more then 1 hour and 15 minutes a day . More to relax and enjoy the build. There were 2 real frustrating things that got me upset and hope others may hesitate on getting this Porsche. 1) All the packets came without numbers and the build was NOT in sections like all the other ones I have built(35 sets). So, I had 19 packets without any numbers on the packets which delayed the build by 5 days for me. Frustrating; especially when you had to get tiny pieces that they had meted out to several different packets. 2) The other problem was with a missing piece. Not something small that you would have if you save the extra ones from other builds, but a large significant piece; which holds up the back tail that attaches to the rear end. Item # 4128593. And not only that; when I went online to order the missing piece they said it did not exist. Online they changed the number on the piece which caused so much confusion. Still looks good. As on any Technics set; precision is important when you build.

Great Porsche

Got this Porsche as a Christmas present. Building it was a great fun and end result is beautiful. Only downside was that I have experienced shortage of pieces. There was two pieces missing in the set. I did manage to go around it with some improvisation. Overall great set.
1 reply from Customer Service team - 6 years ago
Oh no! It’s very rare for a LEGO® set to be missing pieces. Usually you’ll find them stuck in the packaging, used in place of a similar piece, or hiding somewhere near your building area. If you’ve checked all over and the parts haven't appeared, don’t worry! It’s super easy to request replacements. Just go to LEGO.com/BricksPieces to get started.

Good set, but let down by 'the white brick issue'

The set itself is an enjoyable build - good design, not too taxing but not too simple either. However, the failing (not unique to this set but) is the persistent problem with white pieces discolouring quickly. Despite storing the set unopened in its delivery packaging in a cool & dark loft, the white pieces were already 'off-white' at the point of opening up each bag. For a model where white is such a predominant colour, this is a real issue - made even more noticeable when white stickers (of which there are many in this set) are attached to 'white' pieces. This isn't a new problem (AROCS cab, Campervan roof, Ecto-1 being other examples) although at least with those sets the white pieces actually came out of the box in the shade/tone expected and have lost their 'whiteness' gradually despite not being in sunlight or heat. But to open a brand new set and know before you've started the build that the end result isn't going to look as good as you'd like it to (and no-where near the crisp white of the box illustrations) is a little disappointing, hence only 3 stars.
1 reply from Customer Service team - 7 years ago
Thanks for your review. As you've noticed, it is possible for LEGO® pieces to discolor over time if exposed to heat or direct sunlight. That's usually the cause for color variation you might see after some time. If your parts weren't the right color coming out of the box, then please get in touch with us for replacement pieces at LEGO.com/Service. Our parts are made in batches, so there may be some very slight variations. Our Quality Team is always careful to make sure there's only a small margin of color difference, so if something slipped through this time, they'll definitely want to know.

Pretty good set some small issues

Nice set. Instructions had some small issues that will frustrate you if you are not an advanced builder. Model stability leaves some room for improvement. Overall fun build and a great set for the money.
1 reply from Customer Service team - 7 years ago
If something ever seems like it's not very sturdy, the best thing to do is double-check your build. Sometimes there may be a piece just a little off from where it should be, which can cause instability. You’ll also want to make sure that all the pieces are pressed tightly together, except gears and axles, which need some room to turn. If you'd like a hand troubleshooting the build, or if you find that any pieces aren't holding together as they should, feel free to give us a shout at LEGO.com/Service.

EXCELLENT

The Porsche 911 RSR is probably the best technic build I have ever seen. It's detail inside and out are incredible and when you finish building it it's an absolute stunner just like the Voltron model. I would recommend having the bags numbered to cut down on build time, especially for a 1500+ kit cause it takes time to build. I love the color combination and it's HUGE, the tires and rims are my favorite part. Everytime I look at it I feel like I'm on the SUPER SPEEDWAY. It's a definite all star.
1 reply from Customer Service team - 7 years ago
Hey there, we appreciate your review! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed this set overall. it's a real speedway stunner! To address your concern, some of our "expert" level sets don't number the individual bags in order to increase the difficulty level for our experienced builders. I'm sorry if you felt this slowed down the process. For our fans who want to ease the challenge a bit, many of them will first sort the parts either by type or color.

Good but...

It is a fine kit. A few things to be aware of is that the bags are not numbered like a lot of more recent kits, so it is dump out nearly 1600 pieces and sort through them (keep in mind for kids), and the kit does feel like a lot of the kits from 5 years ago that were quickly put together to sell. It looks great on the shelf, but just fyi.
1 reply from Customer Service team - 7 years ago
Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear that you missed the numbered bags, and we'll pass your feedback along to our design team. Our designers are always working hard to create awesome things for all ranges of builders - sometimes it even takes them years to get a set right - and sometimes we like to leave bags unnumbered to add to the challenge of the build. If numbered bags aren't your cup of tea, we'd suggest sorting the parts out in an organizer by type or color.
