Very Disappointing
So disappointing. Juvenile writing. Yes, It's YA, but YA can obviously have sophisticated writing. If you're going to write a whole new world and magic system, it has to MAKE SENSE. The most skillful stories are seamless in their logic. Nothing here makes sense. It's plothole after plothole, which makes the whole thing feel unbelievable and fake. It's hard to care about the characters in a fake world - especially when you don't understand why they care about each other, and why they push each other away so intensely. The whole thing felt very rushed. There was no time given to actually build and examine time world. I'm shocked at what a letdown this is, since it was so heavily marketed by BOTM and other places online.

Much to love!
I am absolutely kind of obsessed with this read and it's a debut! There was a lot to love about this story. From its unique premise and world building to its cast of characters. I did eat up the banter between our two central povs, Wren and August. They are what had me turning the pages and I love how their story played out. There is quite a few povs, six to be exact, and while that can make it hard to connect to all the characters it was done fairly well. They all were interesting and with such a clearly built world there isn't much to gripe about. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishing house for the chance to review this arc. I can't wait to see where the story goes from here!

She already has me hook, line, and sinker for this new series!
You cannot tell me that I.V. Marie is a debut author. This book is so unbelievably entertaining! I’ll start with the pros. I don’t really have any cons, but I’ll try. Pros: She did the POV in this SO well. I wasn’t confused about who was talking and when, nor was it ever confusing to me. This actually may have been one of the best writing I’ve seen when it comes to POV! This is one of the main reasons I can’t believe she’s a debut author! The overall story was so good! She did world building very well without it taking up too much of the book. The story was captivating, and I felt like each character really had their own uniquely deep story. I don’t want to say too much more about this and give away spoilers though. I personally thought the writings style to be on par with other big name authors. No she doesn’t write poetically (thank goodness, I’m not a huge fan of poetic writing), but I know for some her writing may not be for some people. I myself found it delightful and easy to read while still being descriptive and engaging. I can’t really think of any cons in my head. I didn’t find any typos or grammar issues, repetitive words, or even a single “I didn’t realize I was holding my breath until…” phrases that I know some people can’t stand. I will say that she had a lot of tropes going on in this book that I could see some people having a problem with or think they weren’t executed well. I personally thought they all worked out pretty well! All in all I’m in love with this book, it’s definitely going to be one of my top reads of 2025! If she keeps up with writing and storytelling like this, she will easily become one of my favorite authors, and I could see her joining the level of popularity as Sarah J. Maas, Rebecca Yarros, etc. At least in my book!
