Defective out of box. Not happy first time customer
Defective right out of box. No water is released by pressing setting button at first time setup. Filter and descaling solution are missing in box. I was going to ignore this but the unit does not even work at get go. I saw same review about these on another web seller. So these must be not unusual issues with DeLonghi. Can’t give review on quality of this unit yet till I get the replacement. (If I will still have a chance to leave another review with the replacement) Sent it back on the 4th. Target won’t release the replacement till they receive the defective one on the10th. Then I get to wait for them to mail out the replacement. So I paid for it a week ago now and get to wait for another two weeks or so. After receiving a defective/refurbish unit from delonghi and now get a bad time with Target.

More Target than the product. I ordered online and Target shipped it to me. All they did was slap a shipping label on the factory packaging and sent it to me. It areived with the box ripped, and it had been dropped as the base of the machine was broken. I submitted my request for a return and it told me to bring it into any Target store and they would take it, and a new one would be shipped to me. I took it to Target, and nobody in the store had a clue on how to exchange an online order, in store. I was showing them on my phone where Targets instructions told me to bring it in, and they told me Target does not do that. Ended up getting a refund, and I found a better deal elsewhere. Your loss Target.

Initially makes great coffee. However, the water measuring mechanism was broken day one. We were able to fix it. But it is impossible to clean. It just keeps running water forever and never completes the cycle. I have tried for 3 hours straight to go through the cycle and it never finishes. Might have to get a new machine and it will not be this brand.

Stopped working
Unfortunately, this is the second espresso machine from this brand that I purchased since February 2025 and neither of them have worked. This machine stopped working just after six months and I wasn’t able to return it to target because it was past the window. I contacted the company and did not receive any resolution to replacing this machine. I definitely would not recommend this brand.

Missing parts in the box
I'd ordered the espresso machine online and pick it up at Ala Moana store. When I brought it home I noticed that the box was retapped and it was missing a descaling solution. I went back to the store to pick up the missing part; however I was told to bring the whole machine back and purchase a new one!!! Seriously? I asked them for a store credit so I could purchase the solution myself, however the store manager was not willing to help me. Very poor customer service, Target!!! Not even an apology for the opened box and missing item. I'd give this machine 4 stars, I wish it had a option to choose a size of the drinks and it could be more quiet. Zero stars for Target in this transaction.

Easy, delicious coffee
I love that I can pour fresh beans into the machine and it will give me a double shot of espresso soon after. There is no mess and it’s so simple to use. Plus, the coffee tastes so good! The frother is also great! It’s easy to clean and keep nice! I habe had it for 6 months and still use it every day!

De’Longhi Magnifica Start Espresso Maker
The De’Longhi Magnifica Start Espresso Machine is an easy to use super automatic coffee maker that produces an excellent assortment of one-touch brews. Usage has been about 8 cups per day for a month, approximately 240 cups, mostly coffee or Americano, with an occasional espresso. Our municipal water supply delivers good soft water that is filtered in-house before use. The cleaning cycle has not yet alerted. This is our second De’Longhi grind and brew machine after 6 years of use, around 14,600 cups. We have utilized super automatics for about 20 years, including other brands. For ease of cleaning, quality of the brew, and bang for the buck it is hard to beat De’Longhi, especially this Magnifica Start. We chose this manual frother model because we don’t froth milk or soy or the like, so no insight on that function.

Reccomended by a former barista
I would recommend this to anyone as a former barista. It makes great espresso, properly, at the touch of a button. Make sure to read the instructions for the first few uses and for maintenance. I’d say the hardest part of this product is dialing in the espresso to be perfect, though it’s as easy as doing a couple test shots and adjusting a dial in the hopper. The steam wand works pretty well but could use a little more power, and I’m not a huge fan it’s plastic. For the money I’d say this is a great machine and I’m quite enjoying it myself.

Do not buy this from target!
Do NOT purchase this from target! The machine was broken when I bought it and when I tried to return it (within the return window) they told me it must be shipped back for a replacement. I shipped it back and they canceled my order and only partially refunded my order. I would never advise to purchase this from target because their customer service is awful.

Moving my daily latte habit in-house
I bought this machine a little over a month ago, an upgrade from my DeLonghi Stilosa machine. I had purchased the Stilosa to see if I could make satisfying lattes at home and after about a year of pulling shots manually, I was ready to invest in an automatic machine. I'm not a barista, so the convenience of this machine was really appealing to me. No more mess, no more wondering if I'm doing all the prep work right. Just power up, make my selection and a beautiful shot of espresso is delivered. The machine is equally easy to clean. My primary use is for iced lattes, but I've made hot lattes as well and while I feel the steam wand is a little short, it does a great job steaming milk. Overall, I definitely feel that DeLonghi is a brand you can trust, and if you're looking for an automatic machine, this one is fantastic!

Randomly brewing drinks
It worked really well for the first month then became problematic. It would not dispense the full amount of coffee sometimes and the coffee would taste awful. Then sometimes you would press the coffee button and it would work just fine. No rhyme or reason to it. I called the manufacturer several times for assistance with no luck. It also started randomly brewing coffee or Americano without me being near the machine.
