El día de su boda, Carmen deja plantado a Dionisio. Él logra sobreponerse gracias a su vocación por la cocina, que con el tiempo le permite abrir un concurrido restaurante llamado Armablanca. Sin embargo, años después, en pleno movimiento estudiantil de 1968, Carmen reaparece inesperadamente y le pide a su viejo amor que esconda a su marido, un reconocido escritor perseguido por causas políticas. Así empieza la estrecha interrelación entre el individuo y la sociedad, penetrando en las arenas movedizas del amor, la mentira y la traición. Humor, tragedia y cocina son los ingredientes de este platillo literario que nos enfrenta a los grandes dilemas humanos.

But it is also, I believe, a message in a bottle cast into the sea of the past." --Lydiette CarriónOn the day of her wedding, Carmen leaves Dionisio standing at the altar.He manages to recover thanks to his passion for cooking, which eventually allows him to open a bustling restaurant called Armablanca.However, years later, amid the 1968 student movement, Carmen reappears unexpectedly and asks her former lover to hide her husband, a well-known writer being persecuted for political reasons.Thus begins a tight interweaving of the individual and society, delving into the shifting sands of love, lies, and betrayal.Humor, tragedy, and cooking are the ingredients of this literary dish that confronts us with the great dilemmas of the human condition.



About the Author



José Agustín nació en Acapulco en 1944. Poco menos de dos décadas más tarde comenzó a publicar, colocándose a la vanguardia de su generación. Fue miembro del taller literario de Juan José Arreola, quien le publicó su primera novela, La tumba, en 1964. Ha sido becario del Centro Mexicano de Escritores y de las fundaciones Fulbright y Guggenheim. Ha escrito teatro y guión cinematográfico, ámbito en el que dirigió diversos proyectos. Entre sus obras destacan De perfil (1966), Inventando que sueño (1968), Se está haciendo tarde (final en laguna) (1973, Premio Dos Océanos del Festival de Biarritz), El rey se acerca a su templo (1975), Cerca del fuego (1986), El rock de la cárcel (1986), No hay censura (1988), La miel derramada (1992), La panza del Tepozteco (1993), Dos horas de sol (1994), La contracultura en México (1996), Cuentos completos (2001), Los grandes discos del rock (2001), Vida con mi viuda (2004, premio Mazatlán de Literatura) y Armablanca (2006). Ha publicado ensayo y crónica histórica, destacando los tres volúmenes de Tragicomedia mexicana (1990, 1992, 1998). En 2011, recibió el Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes en el área de Linguística y Literatura y las medallas al Mérito de Bellas Artes y al Mérito Artístico de la Asamblea Legislativa del D.F.
