About this item

Highlights

  • Build your own gumball machines and learn physics lessons in the process.
  • It's a gumball machine meets a marble run meets a roller coaster meets a pinball machine!
  • As they roll down the track, the gumballs perform cool stunts and tricks; add a pendulum, pulley cups, trampoline, and more to see these wacky stunts in action.
  • Each segment of track teaches a different lesson in physics, demonstrating principles like force, motion, momentum, gravity, energy, simple machines, and more.
  • Compatible with standard machine-size, 16-mm (5/8-inch) gumballs, the kit comes with a small supply to get started.

Description

Build your own gumball machines and learn physics lessons in the process. A turn of a handle dispenses one gumball at a time out of the clear storage globe and down the track. Each segment of the track teaches a different lesson in physics: force, motion, momentum, gravity, energy, and more. The segments can be moved around to create an almost limitless number of different machines. Small supply of standard machine-size (5/8-inch) gumballs included.

Q: Can you use marbles?

submitted by Frame - 5 days ago
  • A: Hello and thank you for your question! Marbles tend to be heavier than the included gumballs, so while it would be possible to use marbles, the added weight may damage the kit parts and would void the warranty.

Q: Would m&ms work with this

submitted by mom3 - 18 days ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. It might be possible to use certain candy in the machine, however, we recommend spherical shaped prizes no larger than standard machine-size, 16-mm (5/8-inch) gumballs.

Q: Would standard peanut M&M's also work?

submitted by Lauren C - 26 days ago
  • A: Hi Lauren, thank you for your question. Due to the irregular shape of that candy, some may get stuck in the dispensing mechanism. The gumball machine was designed to dispense sphere shaped gumballs, so while yes it is possible to use other candy, you may experience some getting stuck. We recommend sticking with spherical shaped candies. Thank you for your interest in Thames & Kosmos.

Q: Is there a specific gumball refill you need to buy? Can you use any brand or size gum all?

submitted by Grandmab53 - 4 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question! The gumballs that fit in the Gumball Machine Maker are about 5/8" (0.6"), so slightly smaller than a dime.

Frustrating, poor instructions , worse than mouse trap

Bought this for my 6 almost 7 year old. The instructions and pieces were so complicated it took the joy right out of it. Maybe for older kid.

Huge Disappointment

This is awful. My kiddo wanted *this one* specifically from Santa. I am so disappointed as it is cheaply made, flimsy, and doesn’t even work as it should. My husband who can build anything is so frustrated with it.

Junk save your money

Gum ball’s get stuck all the time, the mechanism is built very poorly. Putting the tower together works fine but adding the ramps and pieces to make the maze is ridiculous and difficult they don’t fit together well, and when you get them together they don’t function well either. Do not recommend for a kid or adult. Save your money and buy something better. We will be returning this.

Waste of money

Waste of money. Cheap quality. Poor design. Pieces fit together terribly. Velocity is too high so gum ball rolls right off the tracks. Works nothing like your usual “marble maze”

Do not buy this!

This thing is horrible! If you ignore the directions and use your ‘Marble Run’ skills it’s not as bad. Half the things don’t really work and the others don’t work as they tell you they will.

Headache

My 6 year old asked me to put together for him. The instructions are awful so I had my husband who is good with engineering take a shot. Even he was dumbfounded at how difficult it was. I’m not sure we will ever get this thing assembled.

Bummer

I'm giving this 2 stars because my son still enjoys playing with it even though it doesn't work properly. First off, a majority of the pieces were missing! Ours did not have any of the purple or green pieces, rubber bands, string, or stickers. It only had the red, white, and blue pieces and the 2 clear parts you put together to hold the gum balls. Pretty disappointed!

Fun Toy

Fun toy. The different set-ups were fun, but a little difficult for my son to do on his own. Though, he is only 5. I’m sure it would be easier for older kids. Overall, happy with the purchase.

Low quality

Way smaller than we thought it would be. Takes super small gumballs too. The gumballs that come with it taste horrible. It was also incredibly hard to put together. It took my husband over an hour to get it somewhat working. My son really wanted this so he’s happy with it for the most part but from a parents perspective it was a waste of money and not good quality for what we paid and expected. I feel like other brands, even Target brand itself, could easily make a much better quality product that could be sold.

DO NOT BUY

I will just start with telling you I love putting things together, ikea furniture- love it, the game mouse trap, love it, marble runs all that. When I say I have never wanted to kick something over and stomp on it so badly, I mean it! This has HORRIBLE directions and it doesn’t work. You can get the first example to run correctly but after that nothing! Save your sanity and buy your kids a marble run and some gumballs!

This has no food labeling for allergies. Not sure how that’s legal in the US. Calling this STEM is a joke.

Do not bother buying this. It doesn’t work. None of the configurations actually allow the gumballs to go where they should. My son is autistic and this frustrated him so much. Returning

Awesome Gift

Got this for my child for Christmas. She loves it. There are many ways to configure the machine and has held her interest for the last few months. It can use any standard little gum balls. I think we purchased Hubba Bubba and it fit.
