Book Synopsis
For home sewists who are eager to infuse panache and personal style into their basic patterns, pattern hacking is the skill to learn!
It's happened to us all--the pattern you purchased to create the garment of your dreams is not quite right. The length is wrong for your body type, or you'd rather it had a different style of collar or sleeves to be the perfect representation of the outfit in your mind. For those home sewists who are ready to look past the pattern and infuse personal style into their home-sewn garments, look no further than fashion designer, author, and educator Eve Tokens' Pattern Hacking: Design and Create the Perfect Wardrobe Using Basic Pattern Templates!
Pattern hacking is the art and craft of mixing and matching basic elements from your favorite patterns to devise the perfect piece of clothing for any occasion. This skill is the bridge between fashion design and home sewing that takes you beyond settling for following commercial patterns as designed. Pattern Hacking will give you the knowledge and confidence to let your inner fashion designer take over to create a garment that is uniquely "you." Learn basic design elements, working with slopers (pattern templates), accurately measuring yourself (or someone else), as well as hacking and drafting your new pattern. Then put your new knowledge into action with 13 hacked sewing projects, and perfect your garments with the information from the "sizing hacks and common alterations" chapter.
This friendly and easy-to-follow text is like taking a fashion design course at your own pace in the comfort of your home. Take your wardrobe to the next level in personality and aesthetic with Pattern Hacking!
About the Author
Eve Tokens is a fashion designer and creative pattern cutter originally from Cambridge, UK but currently living in the Netherlands.Eve studied fashion design as a mature student and went on to have her own London based fashion brand GWEN&SYD, named after her grandparents. Capsule collections were shown at Brighton Fashion Week, and at Studio shows in London's Wimbledon, and Eve enjoyed creating the custom creations she made for clients. With an increased awareness of the exploitation and non-sustainable practices of the fashion industry, in 2016 Eve began teaching people all over the world how to design and make their own sustainable fashion, via her blog The Creative Curator. While the website has provided a sense of social purpose - many have used the skills learned to start their own small dressmaking and custom design businesses - it is the feedback and results from returning readers who say they have been empowered to make clothing for themselves that is not only creative but also fits their body the way they want it to that makes the work Eve does so very worthwhile.
