Q: Are these supposed to have an overwhelming fish odor? The first bottle I got had a subtle smell, but it was manageable. This last bottle I got was so bad that I can't take them.

A: I don't notice a fish smell in the bottle I currently have. I didn't ever notice it with my earlier pregnancy either. I've also taken the "Prenatal Multi" without DHA and those don't seem to smell strong either.

Q: Can you take these PostNatal supplements even if you are not post nor prenatal? I ask is that they have a lot vitamins within them & they are Soft Gels. Nature Made does not make a Folic Acid Softgel

A: Per the manufacturer, this is formulated specifically for moms who breastfeed - age of your child probably does not matter. You could still consume these even if not breastfeeding since there are not excessive amounts of each vitamin/mineral.

Fishy smell/taste unfortunately.
I started using these around a month postpartum after I ran out of the rest of my prenatals. They were fine until about a month ago until they started to smell extremely fishy and it has gotten progressively worse. They don’t expire until December. I have about a week left of them but honestly don’t know if I can finish them due to how strong the smell and taste is. They’ve been stored in their container in a dark cabinet.

Works great for my needs!
I am 6 months post-partum and I am coming to say that these have worked great for me and my baby. I exclusively breastfeed and was recommended, by my OBGYN, to continue taking a multi-vitamin through my nursing journey. These are affordable, compared to other brands, and I have not dealt with the fishy smell that others talk about. I'm going on my 3rd bottle and take these daily. The only complaint I have is that they make me feel nauseous if I don't eat with them, but that's an easy fix because I just take one in the morning while I eat breakfast and that's solved that issue! I will continue to buy these throughout my breastfeeding journey to ensure I get the nutrients I need to sustain my milk supply and keep feeding my little one.

IF they smell/taste like fish RETURN them
Public service announcement: ANY vitamin that tastes like or smells like fish should not be consumed that means it has been stored and/or shipped improperly and is no longer safe to consume. Fact check and you too shall see this. I want to add it can happen to any and all brands with added omega 3. When everything is fine these are great on my stomach and really great for postpartum.

Fishy Supps

I highly recommend if you love tasting and smelling fish! Yuck, there are awful. It seems like they are hit or miss as some of the reviews are indicating. I’m trying to power through because I do love the vitamin % compared to prenatal, hopefully the company finds a way to make them less fishy!

Postnatal roulette
People talk about the fishy smell/taste BUT keep in mind it fluctuates per bottle. Which in hindsight is not great that the product fluctuates and smell and taste, but the makeup of the postnatal is really good IMO. The first three bottles have had 0 fishy smell. The fourth bottle I got did (and yeah it’s pretty strong and makes me gag). It’s almost like playing the lottery lol. Hope for the best. Also these are very large pills so if you have a hard time swallowing horse pills, I wouldn’t recommend this one.

Something has changed
I used these for my 2022 baby. They seem different now. It doesn’t matter which company I order a bottle, it has a very fishy smell that even stays on my hands. I can’t stomach it. The prenatals weren’t bad at all and I was very sensitive to smell and foods then.

Used to be ok, now (summer 2024) fishy and make me sick
These vitamins used to be good and didn’t smell. Something has changed in how they are made. I’ve gotten at least 3 bottles where multiple vitamins are cracked open inside, so there is then an oily substance on all the other pills. The vitamins did not used to smell. Now they smell very fishy and I’ve been noticing the upset stomach that other reviews have mentioned.
