Great Bell
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I ordered two bells, for the front and back doors. They are very well made and easy to install. My 6 month old lab mix has not yet figured out that he needs to ring the bell himself, but he definitely knows that the bell means we’re going outside. We’ll get there.

Never too old
I bought the Mighty Paw Tinkle Bell to train my dog to go outside. I have a 10 yr. old Havanese and I trained her to go on an inside dog tray. After so many years I decided to teach her to go outside since we now live where the climate is warm. Since she had no routine with regards to going outside I had to figure out a way for her to let me know when she had to go. At first I put the tray in the garage so that she knew it was no longer in our bathroom. She would go to the door and stand or sit near it looking at me and I would say "hit the bell" and I would grab her paw and hit the bell and opened the door to the garage. It took her 3 days to really get the knack of it and she never had an accident inside. I thought she would never hit the bell because she would wait until she saw me approaching the then would quickly go to the door but would not ring the bell. I would say: "You need to go out? Ring the bell" and I would ring it myself or take her paw to ring it then open the door. On the 3rd day I was on the phone and didn't notice her and all of a sudden I heard the bell .... sure enough she apparently knew that ringing the bell would get my attention. Now she rings it every time she needs to go out. I feel she is a very smart dog but consistency and not giving up is the ticket. Now when we hear the bell ring, my husband and I laugh.

No ring? Try putting it higher.
At first i thought it was overly difficult to get the bell to actually ring. When our 4 month old lab puppy bumped it, the bracket shook along with the bell but the clapper didn't seem to hit the sides of the bell. It even took more force (than seemed necessary) using my hand. I did contact the seller and they responded quickly, offering to replace or refund however I wanted to see if it was something I was doing wrong first. I tried adjusting the bracket, bending it slightly up and down, but that didn't seem to help. I finally tried mounting the whole unit higher than where my dog's nose would normally be. This meant that my dog would push up on the bell, from below, kind of pulling the bell away from the bracket so when it was released it would shoot back and bounce. This did the trick! So if the bell seems like it doesn't want to ring. Move it higher, or even lower, so the nose hits it from below or above, not from the side. Also, dog has quickly picked up the training. I would just reiterate that the ring is meant to be for potty time, not fun time. If you have a dog that likes to go outside and play like mine, make sure you keep it strictly "business" while training.

What a wonderfully simple product
What a wonderfully simple product! My pup is still learning how to use this Bell, but so far she seems interested! Bonus: the company sent me a free dog toy as a gift for ordering. Wonderful people!

Love this little bell!
Our trainer told us to have our puppy sit in front of the door before we take her out to go potty. That way, in the future, she will do that on her own. We just recently added the bell and we have her hit it with her paw or nose each time before we go out. She is extremely stubborn but she is getting the hang of it. So glad we got it as we can't always see her sit in front of the door. but we can definately hear the bell. It's really small and also pretty cute. Love it!

PERFECT!!
We didn't want anything hanging from the doorknob. It would ring regardless of who or why the door was being opened which we felt would confuse the training process. In addition our cats don't like the sound. I loved that I could slide it down into the edge of the baseboard and didn't have to use the screws so there are no holes in the wood or wall and it stays perfectly. I love that it's small as our puppy only weighs 3 lbs but it will still do the job once he is full grown. The biggest bonus for me is that it is so cute!! Looks the a bell from the Downton Abbey castle!!! We are still in process of training but I know this works as my sister trained her dog to a bell. Thank you for such a nice product...it was the only one we could find that didn't have to hang on the door or be screwed into the wall!!

The sound is a nice ring. I love it
My 3 month old puppy is learning to ring this bell on his own after just a few weeks. We started ringing the bell every time we took him out. Now he lets us know when he needs to go out. The sound is a nice ring. I love it! We are very impressed with the company, Mighty Paws. They sent us a free dog toy to try out. We received the monkey chew toy in the mail. The puppy loved it but he tore the burlap backing off quickly. The stuffing and squeaker came out after that. The rope arms and legs are a great idea but he tore one off already. The leather part is still intact. If the leather material was used all around, it would be a perfect chew toy. Thanks for sending it to us for free!

Clear as a Bell
Purchased this item about a year ago to train a new corgi pup. Instead of screwing to the wall, I used plastic tie wraps to bind the bell to the leg of a window table next to the door. I placed some felt between the bell mount and the table leg to keep the metal from rattling against the wood. Training took about 6 months to fully take. The sound is clear enough that I can hear the bell upstairs when rung. The bell means I no longer have to decipher doggie whimpers and groans. When it's time to do business, it's clear as a bell.

Might Paw Tinkle Bell- A Must Have!
We love our Mighty Paw Tinkle Bell! We installed ours on the back sliding door where our dog is use to going out. Installation was simple. The instructions were spot on! Our dog picked up ringing the bell very fast, but he loves to go outside so that's his way of communicating outside not just the need to go potty. This bell has gotten him away from pawing at the glass and door frame. I'd say it took about a week for him to catch on, but now he is a pro. Thank you Mighty Paw!
