Strong chemical smell for weeks

I have bought the Ecotools brand loofah for a couple of years, but Target has stopped carrying them, so I tried this up&up brand and I do not like it. Two positives: the color is nice and it works fine. But my biggest complaint and why I will not purchase this again, is that as soon as you get it, the loofah has a strong chemical smell; even after using it for a month now, I can still smell the chemicals.
