Q: How will I know when it reaches the end of it's efficacy? Is there some kind of alert on the product itself?

A: That's a great question! When the filter reaches the end of its life (approximately 1,000 gallons / 4,000 liters), it will stop allowing water to flow through. You’ll notice it becomes extremely hard (or impossible) to draw water through the straw. This is your built-in signal that the filter has reached the end of its usable life.

A: The LifeStraw Personal Water Filter has a long-lasting membrane microfilter that can filter up to 4,000 liters (1,000 gallons) of water before it stops working. Unlike some other LifeStraw products, it does not have a replaceable filter—once it reaches capacity, you will need to replace the entire unit.

Great Product/ Admirable Company
While I haven't yet had occasion to use my straw myself, I know others who have and who universally applaud its effectiveness. It's also wonderful that the company is both environmentally and socially responsible! I gave 7 as holiday gifts and all the recipients were thrilled!

Bought for Emergency Kits

Amazing
I took a Lifestraw with me while I went backcountry camping in West Virginia. Honestly, this product is way under priced for what it is. It can literally save your life. I drank from multiple streams after I ran out of water and made it out of the woods safe.
