love the SOS safety feature; trouble texting
This device gives me a great peace of mind while working solo in a very rugged landscape. My only concern is my inability to send messages to people who are not signed up for the Garmin Messenger app. I have researched all the known issues to impede successful communication and continue to have difficulties. Is there a live Help/human customer assistance outlet to walk me through the process. And yes I have tested the device and all systems go, including successful messaging with folks added to the app. My understanding is it should not be required - e.g. for my older parent.

My lifeline - Backcountry Paraglider
I've been very hurt before paragliding, so I wouldnt fly places without cell service. This enables me to fly remote mountains. Peace of mind that I can get help makes my trips more fun.

Works! Expect these things however...
As a satellite messenger for communication when away from cell service, it's great. It does everything it is advertised to do. It is not by any means fast, though; but that is not a flaw of the inReach Mini 2 itself, just a caveat of satellite technology. Messages that you send may take up to 5-7 minutes to send to the receiver (person you are talking to), as it takes time for an Iridium satellite's orbital alignment to allow for your message to send. The inReach Mini 2 does not receive when it is off either. If you turn off your device after sending your message, you will not see the response from your receiver until the inReach Mini 2 is powered back on. I used this to keep in touch with family while backpacking on Santa Cruz Island, California. I had to leave the island a day early due to an incoming weather system, and I was able to communicate this information to my party that was awaiting my return on the mainland. Despite heavy usage over 4+ days, the device only lost about 15% of battery. I highly recommend this for anyone that adventures in areas that disallow cellular communications.

Super easy to use!
Setup was quick and easy. I love the simplicity of operation. There's nothing worse than fighting with technology when you are in the wild trying to escape from it. Highly recommended!!

Simple to use and handy
Use this on multiple thru hikes and love how easy it is to communicate with friends and family back home. I especially enjoy using the preset messages to let folks know I made it camp safely. You can communicate with other Garmin accounts as well. Connects to your phone via Bluetooth to easy texting. My only complain is the weather reporting is not very accurate...had a few days where is says warm and sunny but it was clearly raining.

Piece of mind in case I get into trouble...
I use it exclusively as emergency backup to the phone in case I have no 4G/5G signal. Fortunately, so far I haven't had to use it. As with all the other Garmin equipment I own, the user interface is unintuitive and frustrating, but the hardware seem solid. I'm a little disappointed with the battery life though. Clearly, since I'm not tracking or sending/receiving messages, and presumably the device is just processing GPS signal, I would expect better autonomy. It also seems slow to acquire GPS positioning - unlike other Garmin devices I use (watch, bike computer...)

Saved my Death Valley National Park trip
I was planning to go to Death Valley National Park in 2 weeks. Remembering I was going on this trip solo, it occurred to me for safety reasons that I might want to have a Garmin. I went ahead and purchased the InReach Mini 2, charged it, tested it, and stored it in the van. Sure enough, I got stuck in some wet sand 5 Mi up Race Track Road, spent 4 hours trying to dig myself out with traction devices, and finally remember I had the garmin! Within 15 minutes I had help on the way and a ranger pulled me out. Without the Garment I might have waited for days for someone to drive by as the road had just opened. I am now convinced that I will bring my Garmin for any travel outside of cellular coverage in the future.

Battery life and better GPS connectivity
Bought this during the clearance for the new Garmin inreach launch. I figured a good deal for the newer tech of my original garmin inreach. I am not disappointed and this was a sound decision. It offers incredible battery performance. In addition how it is connecting to the satellites is far more responsive than the older one. This is certainly offering me more security on trail. I have used it twice and still working on it's rich features. At the price point inpurchased it this was a great upgrade and am very happy with it so far.

Small and useful
I replaced my older large Garmin with the mini and am happy I did so. Battery life and typing are a downgrade but since I’m not tempted to leave it behind, it is definitely more useful!

déjà vu all over again.
The inReach Mini is a tried & true device, especially important out of cell phone range. But now, the major carriers have introduced satellite services when out of range of a tower. FREE. iMessage has great maps, but “there are apps for that.” This is reminiscent of standalone GPS devices. Back in the day I paid big $$ for equipment and services (including Garmin).

Easy to use, can cancel the subscription at any time and reactivate it at anytime. Easily check in with the spouse and friends to tell them you're ok each day you're away. GPS tracker does a great job and it's small and easy to pack! Highly recommended!

It takes a little bit to update in slight tree cover. eventually it sends updated location data and messages, but wish it had a little better signal strength and battery life.
