Super thin, will be returning. A regular black has more cushion. Disappointed.

It's quite comfortable. My kids love sleeping in at their grand parents house on this floor mattress.

Authentic Japanese Futon Experience
Having spent a considerable amount of time living in Japan and sleeping on traditional Japanese futons, I can confidently say that this one offers an authentic experience. It's made of foam, but not the kind you'd find in a memory foam mattress―it's much firmer and more supportive, which is exactly what you'd expect from a real Japanese-style futon. I've placed mine directly on carpet, and it's comfortable even without a frame. That said, I'd recommend using a wooden slatted base if you can―it helps with airflow and enhances comfort over time. Even so, I find it nearly as comfortable as my traditional 10-inch mattress, which cost 13 times as much! That says a lot about the quality here. Yes, it's firm―but that's the point. If you're looking for a plush, cloud-like sleeping experience, this isn't for you. But if you're seeking a true Japanese futon, softness shouldn't be your expectation to begin with. After unboxing, the futon expanded within a day. You could sleep on it before it's fully expanded without issue. Just like any mattress, you'll want to use a sheet or mattress protector to keep it clean. One great advantage is that, unlike traditional mattresses, you can fold and air this one out―perfect for setting it outside occasionally to freshen up. It's more portable than a standard mattress, though not as compact as when first packaged. You can fold it in half for easier storage or transport, but it's not meant to be rolled up frequently. Still, it's light enough to move around, which is a bonus for anyone who relocates often. I love the minimalist design―it's simple, practical, and aesthetically clean. It feels great, looks great, and doesn't crease when folded. In my opinion, this is a fantastic option for anyone wanting a traditional-style bed. However, it's best used as a bed, not a substitute for a futon-style sofa.

Perfect Extra Bed for Small Spaces
This futon is much better than I expected. It looks thin at first glance, but it's actually very comfortable to lie on. I bought it to use as an extra bed for guests, and it works perfectly. It folds easily, takes up very little space, and feels well-made. A great solution for small spaces.

I'm overly pleased with the quality of the mattress.
I didn't get this to sleep on it, but was very happy to find that placing it on hard wood floor, it was very comfortable. And I need a lot of foam under me. I could easily nap on this mattress. I have a very good dog who made her own rules about going up on furniture. She won't. I've wanted to sleep with her, but she'd never get in my bed. (And that's fine) I wanted her to lay on the couch with me watching TV. Nope. So I got this. She was excited that it was on the floor. I covered it was protection, so I could clean it up easily. She did come on there with me, but looked like she shouldn't be there. After a 10 minutes, left to her own cot. I think I'll have better results, the more I do that. I could lay there for naps, it's so comfortable! I did not find it easy to fold up into 3's, like they showed. I thought maybe it had pre-folds, but no. It's all one piece. I did get it to fold in half. And it stayed there. I do not know what type of foam or padding they used, but it's a great balance for giving softness between you and the floor. There was no odor. It's made well. I would think this will hold up for years, going by the way it feels. It doesn't feel like foam or the type of foam that would flatten out. There is weight to this. It's not fluff. The men in our family have always laid on the floor with the dogs. No matter how hard the floor was. I sure wish we had this to use over the years. This mattress would be a heaven spot for any family with dogs. (Or even kids playing) If you have a big enough living or family room, this is worth having a spot in your home. A welcoming spot for anyone.

large and firm mattress
I like this mattress a lot. It seems like good quality that will last. It is not soft enough for me on the floor, but would be great for kids. I planned to use it as a mattress topper, which is what it is called on the tags, but it is actually too long. I got the full size, which is 80" long. That is actually the length of a queen size bed. A full size bed is 75". I have a full size bed in our guest room and this hangs over the edge by about 5". Also, the mattress is very firm. If you ar looking for a soft mattress topper, this will not work. I may keep it folded under the bed and people can use it if they want to and it will come in handy as an extra floor mattress for kids.

Convenient and good for price!
Ok, so this item is so cute and convenient when you have guests! I place it on top of an air mattress and have the guest sleep on it. Quality―it's good for the price and foldable so I can put it away. I got the twin size. It's also soft. I also rest on the mat on carpet on it.

Buy Rated based on Favorable Price to Utility Ratio.
Would buy again. This futon helps me with my sciatica pain. After moving to a too soft bed to a yoga mat and getting good results (improvement in pain), I decided to try a futon mattress placed on top of run sitting on a hardwood floor. The queen sized model gives me enough room to stretch out which the yoga mat did not. Its kind of harsh on your butt but you have to get used to it. After going to this futon, I wake up pain free. I do see the necessity to switch to a firmer matrress inevitably but this futon is a cheaper way of getting that confirmation. Rate this a BUY based on very favorable Price to Utility.

Slept on it for 1 month, here's my review:
It's been around a month so I figured I'd write a review. It's been great! I recently got into floor sleeping after moving (*cough* because it was cheap *cough*) because of some YouTube videos I'd seen and decided to give this one a try. I sleep with it directly on a small rug, no frame, and I use normal fitted twin sheets. It's been great! A little firm if you're not used to sleeping on a floor mattress, but not bad at all and I've been sleeping great. I weigh 200 pounds and am a side sleeper, but it's held up well. It was also super easy to set up, I literally just had to open the bag it arrived in, which was vacuumed tight and super compact. I was nervous about the size it would actually be when it arrived, but the pictures it shows are accurate. It's exactly what I was hoping for. If you are new to floor sleeping and don't want to feel any of the floor at all, this is pretty good, but it can be a little firm on my hips or shoulder if I sleep on my side. I still sleep well and this hasn't been a problem for me. It inflated pretty much fully after a day of being out of the bag and had no funky or weird smells. Thus far, 5/5. I do however recommend watching some YouTube videos on it as they can be informative on how to prevent mold from extra humidity and lack of air flow.

Nice futon mattress, very comfortable !
I have been through 2 other futons and I think I have finally found one that feels nice to sleep on and looks good. It's a pretty navy blue (I wish they had a teal blue, but I can buy a cover if I want to change it), but more importantly it is a true "FULL" size mattress and it feels nice to sleep on. I tested it myself before I had christmas family stay with me, and I was able to sleep without feeling the frame below me. It really does feel like a memory foam mattress. It was tested again by my son, who is 5'7 and 165 lbs, and he said it was one of the best ones he had slept on too and he would probably get one for his house as well. I ordered the frame that showed it went with it and that works just fine too.

Nice
We bought this as an extra and it ended up being a great mattress. Great for on the go. A little bit of a pain to pack since it's a king size but easy enough. Haven't had too many spills or messes on it but it washes pretty well. Sleeps my family of 3 well. With extra room.

Great for temporary
Bed is thin but comfortable enough to lie or sit on without bedframes. Also very convenient for rolling and storing them away in the corner.

Great mattress for futon frames as well!!
My ten year old LOVES this bed. She wanted to try one of these instead of a traditional bed. It's thick enough, it's not too hard to sleep on, and it's comfortable. This style of mattress works great for her small bedroom.

Don't but this mattress.
This is a terrible futon mattress. It came so vacuumed packed we could hardly get it opened up. The big lumps never came out of it, so it was too uncomfortable to sit on. We are sending it back.

Ended up returning
Not happy with this mattress at all. After seeing all the amazing reviews - I purchased this anticipating a nice comfortable futon mattress for our guest room. Not sure if this one was faulty but it was lumpy, and the inside was filled with foam blocks. I gave it 1 week to see if it would materialize into a mattress and it did not. Returning the item is tricky too return bc when it arrives it's in a pressurized and comes in a small box. After you open it - it does expand into a mattress and when i returned it - I had to find a oversize box. maybe this one was faulty, but I did call the company and left a few msgs and emails - and I did not hear back
