Arcing started in less than a year
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This microwave has been installed for a year with moderate use and is arcing. The microwave is clean and food is covered during use. The right-side wheel of the drawer mechanism is out of alignment and has scraped the interior, causing the arcing. This is a common issue with the microwave, based on other reviews of this appliance. Is there a remedy from GE? Has anyone had any luck with repairs?

Major design flaw
Microwave is quiet and seems to work well after having GE service come down and fix a problem that was preventing the door from shutting all the way which prevented the microwave from turning on. To me, the big problem is a major (in my opinion) design flaw in that the control panel is fixed in place facing outward. There is no way to flip the screen into an upfacing position. Being that the microwave is installed in my island’s cabinetry so it’s at a lower level, I have to bend or kneel in order to see and use the controls. I’ve seen the microwaves that allow the control panel to flip up so you VPI a use the controls standing up. Yes, some people place the cabinet high in their upper cabinets so this wouldn’t matter. But if the control panal was made to lie flat or flip up it could be used in either scenario comfortably

Fire Hazard

Arcing in back left corner!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We are experiencing the same intermittent arcing issue in back left corner of our GE Cafe drawer microwave. Called for service and it didn’t do it when they were here so they just left. Pretty annoying since this is a known issue and all they needed to do was to google it and see that many people have had the same problem due to poor design. I don’t feel like it is safe to keep using it. Please provide some kind of fix or replacement for those of us having this problem.

Not happy with heating
Our first installed microwave had issues with door not being stable and heating of food not even. We got a replacement of the first one and now the door is fine, but the food is not heating even and its really hot on the perimeter and no heat or less heat at the center of the plate. Not happy overall with the design, and power of the device.

For best results when using Cook Time or Defrost, stir or turn the food halfway through the cycle. Arching after 2 years
Just like many of the reviews we've now seen, our drawer microwave also arched in the same place, right above the point where the left roller is positioned when it is closed. I have attempted 3 times to repair by grinding down to metal and recoating with cavity paint. It may be that I just haven't been able to get a thick enough coat yet, but arching reoccurs with the first bag of popcorn.

There is no approved method to repair the coating on the cavity of your microwave. Any such attempts would be considered product modification and is never recommended as the product design has been changed and has not been tested for reliability and safety. Our recommendation is to stop using the unit and replace it.

Wish the Builder would have installed correctly
This is a great Microwave. The builder, The New Home Company Northern CA, installed this unit ABOVE our built in oven and it's so difficult to use it without spilling or injuring myself trying to get things in and out of it. I need a stool to see anything inside the drawer.

Sparks - another post, don’t buy!
This microwave sparks and the wheels are garbage. We’ve only had it for 2.5 years - hoping GE will do the right thing because at this point it’s a safety issue and going to catch our house on fire. So disappointing as I see others have the same issue.

Ok but I wouldn’t buy again
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the idea of this microwave but we’ve had issues since day 1. It occasionally chooses not to stay open and automatically closes before you can get your food in or out. The only way to stop it is to hold door open which doesn’t seem good for the mechanics. It also doesn’t seem to hold any programming to change power which is defaulted at 10 so things like popcorn burns before popping all the way. I also need to constantly turn mute off- seems to be defaulted ON which means no beeps when done. I love the design And wanted to stay with same brand but wish I picked another. I also wish this drawer open style came in platinum series to match my appliances. I gave this a 3 because it essentially works but has flaws.

We are happy to provide guidance with this microwave drawer. We do not advise holding the door open manually as this can mess up the mechanics in the door. Simply press the Open button again if the unit is starting to close. We do advise checking the power level and setting prior to heating your items to ensure that you have it on the desired setting and power level. Your feedback is extremely important to us. Good features - keypad needs work.

Considering the price of this item and the fact that it is a drawer microwave,,you would think it would have a back lit keypad. Otherwise, it’s a good microwave and we like the features such as the melt feature and the sensor features.

Beautiful and Works Great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this microwave drawer. First purchased in stainless steel. This year I updated my kitchen and purchased second one in matte white. The cafe appliances are beautiful. This is not your grandma’s white shiny appliance…the matte white is gorgeous!
