Q: Does the board have a protective coating on its surface? It does not feel like natural wood to the touch and after several weeks of use I’ve oiled it and it is not soaking in oil like I’m used to.

A: Hi Maija, I don't know for sure, but it sort of smells like they've coated the boards with linseed oil. As long as it's not boiled linseed oil then it should be fine for use.

Splintered after one use!
This was a gift on my wedding registry. I used it ONE TIME and the “finish” is splintering and lifting up. Not good. I will either take these back and replace them with something more durable i.e. plastic or will keep them for display/charcuterie only. Leaning strongly toward taking them back and getting store credit since I stupidly didn’t save the receipt. These are absolutely trash for actual kitchen use.

Contains toxic Xylene
This seemed like the perfect wooden cutting board -- stylish, functional, and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, I discovered in the fine print that it has been treated with Xylene, which is a toxic substance. The most important reason to use a wooden cutting board is to avoid the toxic chemicals and microplastics inherent in plastic cutting boards. Unfortunately, the Xylene treatment largely defeats the purpose on this product. I hope target will offer a version that is just plain wood, or one that is only treated with food safe substances.

After 1 month of use the finish is coming off and they are full of knife marks. They have also started to smell. I tried cleaning with baking soda and lemon thinking maybe it was food remnants but still STINKS. I use one for meat and the other for produce and they have both developed the same smell.

Pretty but impractical
I’ve really been wanting wooden cutting boards and these are beautiful, but after one week of using them they not only look awful, but there strands of wood peeling up from all the cuts and getting into our food.
