Women's Eyelet Midi Skirt - A New Day™ Cream XS

Extremely cute - I don’t get the bad reviews. It’s a soft cottony fabric, and meant for the summer. I love the detailing, can’t wait for warmer weather!

Material is wayyyyy too thin! You see everything underneath!! Not worth the price. Sizing is true to size but I wouldn’t spend my money on something that shows everything underneath it.

I love everything about this skirt except for two significant points detailed below. The little scallop details are charming and fit my personal taste. The smocking makes it more accessible and comfortable if your weight fluctuates. The material is all cotton, not plastic aka polyester found in so much clothing. The cons: — no pockets, I don’t understand why they were omitted in this design. — one of the most inane construction choices I’ve ever seen for the lining. The skirt reaches well past the knee and does have a slit on one side to just above the knee. So do many, many other skirts. But instead of lining it fully with a corresponding slit, or not lining it at all, designers have decided to pinch pennies while protecting their profit margin by giving this skirt a not-even-halfway-down “lining”. This skirt material is thin, being somewhere between a cotton lawn and cotton poplin weight. In the white version of the skirt, you can absolutely see the ridiculous line of the “lining” right across your lap. I know a lot of cheap clothes are made with shortened linings, particularly ones with lace on top, but that’s different from what I’m talking about here. That saves money, yes, but it also works as an aesthetic design choice. That is *not* the same as what’s being done here. This is either lazy construction and/or a way to cut costs and labor. I’ll end by saying I am keeping the skirt because it fits me, and my choices across the board at Target are limited anyways being plus sized especially in styles I like. Also, I know how to sew (kind of have to when stores don’t always have options for you) and have the skill to be able to fix the issue—but my review and critiques are for those who don’t. The easiest fix even if you have no sewing experience is cut the thing out, but at that point I’d wait if you can until the price lowers or the line goes on sale. Wear a slip/petticoat/under dress under it, yes, you’ll see it through the side slit, but this is the kind of concession needed when the original design fails in this respect.

I love the fabric (cotton). Looking forward to summer to wear it. Fits so cute.
