Description

Book Synopsis

From TikTok and The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Mayci Neeley, a deeply personal story of love, grief, motherhood, and resilience.

Mayci Neeley and the women of MomTok burst into the center of pop culture when Hulu's The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives took the world by storm. But the show barely scratched the surface of Mayci's personal story. From becoming a mom at twenty, to losing her son's father in a tragic car accident, to going back to college as a single mother, she's only ever given us glimpses of the challenging things she's been through. Now, finally, she's ready to tell us everything.

In this inspiring and darkly funny memoir, Mayci lifts the veil for readers on what growing up Mormon is really like and how it's strict standards completely blow up for many young people when they get to college. When Mayci arrived at BYU on a tennis scholarship, she was unprepared to manage the temptations she'd been taught were sins. She found herself drinking too much, stuck in an abusive relationship, and on the verge of falling down a dark and dangerous path. Suddenly, she was pregnant at nineteen and mourning a boyfriend she'd been building a future with. Mayci captures the period from college to adulthood with brutal honesty, grace, and humor, offering up a heartfelt portrait of a woman finding her voice and her strength.

All of these trials led to her current love story, her journey with IVF, and of course the inside story of MomTok. Fans looking for a juicy play-by-play on the friend group drama will get everything they want--and then some--but more than anything, readers will walk away with a sense of confidence in themselves and an ability to wear their scars proudly.

Not a good book!

This book is terrible! It’s so badly written. Mayci presents as someone who is taken advantage of but admits to seeking out horrible things. Definitely not a book for a teenager or young woman.

Don't buy it

Such a dry read that will most likely make you change how you view Mayci. The whole time I was reading this I kept thinking it had to get better... but no, the whole book is an entitled girl writing about nothing profound or ground breaking that would motivate anyone without a well off family to do anything different.

I really enjoyed Told You So. It was raw, emotional, and incredibly relatable. I truly appreciated how open and vulnerable Mayci Neeley was in sharing her story, especially knowing it could help other girls in similar situations feel less alone. It’s the kind of book that sticks with you after you finish it. Definitely recommend.

Such a good read! I’m not a huge reader but after the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives came out, I knew I had to get this book! Mayci did not disappoint and I was hooked on her story and flew through the book. A great look at her story beyond the show.

Mayci has always been one of my favorites on SLOMV, but this gave me a true insight to who she is. She dives deep into the trials of loss, young motherhood, and trauma and it was inspiring to read. It took me 7 hours to read the book front to back and was worth every minute. If you haven't already, READ THIS BOOK!!

Read this now!

This book is absolutely amazing! I was blown away by how Mayci turned her pain into purpose. I admittedly never read books but I couldn’t put this one down! It even took priority over my nightly real housewives binge sessions! lol Definitely recommend! 100000/10!

“Told You So” is one of the most powerful memoirs I’ve ever read. Mayci’s honesty is unreal — she opens up about some of the darkest, rawest chapters of her life and still manages to show so much strength, humor, and heart. I laughed, cried, got angry, and then felt so proud of her by the end. You can feel her growth with every single page. It’s a reminder that even when life tries to break you, you can come back stronger and finally choose yourself. Everyone needs to read this — especially women. Mayci, thank you for being so vulnerable and brave. This book will stay with me for a long time.

AMAZING

Told You So by Maci Neeley was such a good read. The characters felt real, the emotions were strong, and the story kept me hooked the whole way through. Neeley does a great job showing the messy, complicated parts of love without ever making it feel overdone. It’s quick, heartfelt, and super easy to get lost in. Definitely recommend if you want something emotional but totally binge-able.

LOVED IT

From the moment I started reading I felt like Mayci was speaking directly to the parts of me I usually keep tucked away as a student-athlete. Her honesty about pressure, doubt, and the weight of expectations hit close to home. It’s rare to find someone who can put into words what it feels like to balance school, sports, and trying to hold yourself together. What resonated most was her reminder to trust yourself through all the chaos. It made me feel understood in a way that’s hard to find, especially when you’re constantly pushing to meet everyone’s expectations, including your own. Just really loved this book and hearing maycis story.

honest and heartfelt

"Told You So” by Mayci Neely is a beautifully raw and relatable read. The book feels like a conversation with a close friend—warm, honest, and full of real-life insight. It’s emotional without being heavy and inspiring without trying too hard. A quick, meaningful read that lingers long after you finish.

5/5 stars, no question

OMG I saw Told You So at Target and had to buy it. I read it in TWO DAYS. 😳 Her story is so raw and real. It’s messy, honest, and totally unputdownable. As someone who grew up Mormon and feels stuck in the church sometimes, it really hit me to see that other people have struggled too and that things can get better.

All stars for Told You So!

Honestly, the best autobiography i’ve read. I could visually picture everything I read in my head like it was a movie or tv show. Hands down recommend for anyone who wants a good book that they can’t put down. I’d definitely go back in time and reread again.

I love this memoir! It’s so raw and true, and it can help spread so much awareness for everything Mayci went through. She stayed true to herself and her story and you could tell. It had my attention the entire time, and I usually done read books very often!!
