About the Author



Kate Bowler is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Everything Happens for a Reason (And Other Lies I've Loved), No Cure for Being Human (And Other Truths I Need to Hear), and Good Enough, as well as Blessed and The Preacher's Wife. She is the host of the popular podcast Everything Happens. A Duke University professor, she earned a master's degree in religion from Yale Divinity School and a PhD from Duke University.

Jessica Richie is the co-author of the New York Times bestseller Good Enough, the executive director of the Everything Happens Project at Duke Divinity School, and the executive producer of the Everything Happens podcast. She received her MDiv from Duke Divinity School.

Life changing- raw, honest, necessary in hard times

I cannot express how irreplaceable this book has been in my life during the hardest season I’ve ever been through. It’s so real, so raw and honest. It’s not just “cheer you up” Bible verses. These authors have clearly been through hard things. They sit with you in your pain and don’t force you out of it, much like I imagine God does. I’m in a place in my life where I can’t even look at the Bible without getting angry or upset but this book reframes verses in a way I’ve never seen before that make it palatable to even the most broken hearts. I’ve never felt so seen by complete strangers. I’m thanking God for this book tonight. It’s been the only thing to soften my heart to talk TO the Lord instead of being upset and angry with him.

Bowler and Ritchie rock my socks!

Using this as a companion to Kate Bowler's free Lenten devotional? and I love taking it slower. Usually I devour her books, but the savor is sweet with this one. I feel like they tap into such universal truths each time. if they don't apply to me know, they have or will. The liturgies are also an encouragement to share with loved ones who need to feel seen. ❤️❤️❤️

Excellent for Imperfect People with Imperfect Lives

Wholeheartedly recommend. I've reached for this book so many times in those imprefect moments. Those moments of fear, grief, and overwhelm (there are a lot of those with a spouse who has stage 4 cancer). I feel so seen, heard, and encouraged reading this book. I've already purchased two other copies to send to friends. P.S. Its design is gorgeous for your nightstand or coffee table. Everyone I've given it too has commented on this too. Its a book that will be kept around and in easy reach!
