Good quality for the price. Similar printing of a bible. Small font but I like that.

these books are beautiful, soft and fun to touch but keep in mind these are basically pocket sized books.

Smaller and for the price looks cheaply made. I need to return it. So disappointing

I personally love these little books, but they're not that high quality and I wouldn't expect a ton from them. Before I get into the actual book review, I would recommend ordering these from somewhere else besides Target. The shipping box/material was not safe at all, and even though the books were shrink-wrapped, the box and some books came scratched and fellowship of the ring was already coming apart from the spine binding. Target was helpful and gave me a refund, but I'm still not sure if you want to take the risk. That being said, these are tiny palm-sized books that feel like personal journals. I really love how they look on the shelf and even more than that, I love the intimacy they offer when reading them. It really feels like I'm reading Bilbo or Frodo's personal journals which is the main appeal to me. The text is very small, but I don't have a problem with it. It takes a minute to get used to (especially Fellowship which is the smallest) but after that I barely notice. If you are looking for high quality leather, you won't find it here. This is cheap faux leather that is more plastic than anything else. It still looks awesome, but it won't age well and doesn't seem particularly sturdy. However, it looks great and feels nice in the hand. I still much prefer this to paperback, but we'll see how I feel in a year or two. My biggest gripe would be the thinness of the pages and the printing quality. I understand that the pages need to be thin in order to fit all the text in such a small format, but the ink really bleeds through. You can see the text on the back of the page as well as the next page after that, but putting your fingers between the pages does help a bit. If there is an illustration, it bleeds through a massive amount. In terms of the printing, some pages are nice and dark while others are very light. Overall, I think you should pick these up if you love Tolkien, the appearance is appealing to you, and you think you can read very small text. They are inexpensive, look great on a shelf, and are fun to read!

Due to fault of my own, I did not realize this was a "pocket" set soni was disappointed in the size for the money. But overall is a good set

Love the color, texture, size and style. As many people have pointed out, these books are small and the text is small. Use a better photo Target.com or other relevant party. Beautiful collection. Good price.

It was Great! It is smaller than I thought it would be but my son loved the size, unique style, and the leather feel of the cover and holder.

These books are nice quality. However, fair warning because it's tough to tell on-line: they are significantly smaller than the average book size.

Not going to get into a review of the books; they are as good as they have always been. I will note that this version of The Hobbit is from the 2001 HarperCollins edition that is a corrected version of their 1995 printing; this means it is the most up to date and complete version of The Hobbit. Now onto the review proper: This printing is absolutely beautiful. The leather is soft and supple. The front covers are imprinted with the book title, Tolkien's logo, and his name. The pages are much like the pages of a bible, maybe a bit thicker. Most importantly the binding is pretty solid and should last through many readings without any issues at all. If you love The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings and wanted an edition that you could enjoy the rest of your life and possibly pass them on to your children; this is one of those printings.

Beautiful books, nice for collectors, but way to small to read. Should be labeled "pocket size". Only about 5in by 3in, very very small text.

Very nice leather/fake leather covering on these books, very nice quality. First set I received had some cuts in the covering of the case, but the replacement set was fine. Only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is that this set is very small, and not advertised as such, at least that I see. The books themselves are about 3.5 by 5 inches, which means very small print. Probably not a great purchase for someone with vision issues, go with a larger paperback set.
