A charming story!
Still Waters by Patricia Johns is a charming work. The writing displays a strong command of craft, with well-developed and believable characters throughout. I appreciated the Amish community at Shepherd’s Hill for their mutual support through all circumstances. Still Waters focuses on Beth Peachy and Danny Lapp. Beth is currently in Shepherd’s Hill assisting her grandmother, who has dementia, with preparations to relocate to live with family. During this time, Beth seeks to gain further insight into her late father's childhood while considering a decision regarding baptism. Danny's family urges him to marry, but he is only interested in Beth. It was nice to catch up with Tabitha to see how she is readjusting to Amish life and her community. I enjoyed the mystery and was eager to learn more. Still Waters is the second book in The Amish of Shepherd’s Hill series. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading Green Pastures first which features Tabitha Schrock and her sisters. Still Waters is an appealing Amish tale with baptism doubts, dementia difficulties, divorce dilemma, romance miseries, brother trouble, suppressed secrets, and a caring community.
