- Start with the toddler size bed, using your crib mattress. The crib mattress sits low to the ground, allowing the car walls to act as extra support to keep little ones from rolling out of the bed. When your child is ready, add the front and side panels to expand to accommodate a twin size mattress. Using a twin mattress only, the side walls continue to provide guardrail-like support. When guardrail support is no longer needed, optionally add a box spring to raise the mattress up higher.

A: Thanks for your question! The Step2 Roadster Toddler-to-Twin Bed does not have a functioning door. Kids get in and out by climbing over the sides, which are designed to be low enough for easy access while still helping keep little ones secure during sleep.

Grandson approved!
This is the 4th roadster bed I’ve purchased for my grandsons. I have 2 in my home for visits and they have two at their home for everyday. Best transition from crib with 10” firm mattress, there’s still a bunker to keep from rolling out. Well made and fairly simple to assemble. We’ve never bothered with the toddler size- straight to twin.

The Grinch Who Stole the Roadster
The item we received was obviously a return. It came beat up with NO HARDWARE! Totally ruined the Christmas surprise we had planned for my son.

So far, we love it
We just moved and I'm starting to redecorate my toddlers bedroom. So far, we love it. The only downside is that the seller packed it without wrapping paper, and it arrived with scratches all over. After putting everything together.. we will keep it. Scratches are the same color as the car, so you won't notice it from far away.

My son loves his new bed! He helped put it together, it was pretty easy with a drill, and once I threw all his stuffies in there he was a happy happy camper. The bed is absolutley adorable and made well enough to withstand his crazy 2's stage.

This bed is everything and more!
My toddler is obsessed with this bed. It’s the perfect size for him. He pretends to drive it and loves to change the tires and fill it up with gas. It does require 2 people to put it together. Also it’s big enough to grow with him as it fits a standard size twin bed. Even the adults love it!

One issue
Overall the bed easy to assemble and my grandson loves it! The only problem was that one of the bolts (left side) didn’t screw in and is now stuck. This will be a problem when we change the bed to the larger size.

Great car bed!
My 3 year old loves his new car-bed and he instantly started sleeping in it right away rather than continuing to sleep with mommy in her bed. Highly recommend it! But you need to purchase a box spring if you don’t want the mattress on the floor.

Live vicariously
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The bed arrived in two boxes, all the hardware was included minus the use of a Phillips head screwdriver. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Took me about 40 minutes to assemble solo. Would recommend for anyone trying to live vicariously through their children because the wife won't let you have a super cool race car bed.

Realistic Roadster Bed
Bought this second Twin/Toddler Race Car Bed for my grandson since he’s done so well in the one at my house. This made the transition from crib to big boy bed so smooth. The 16 1/2” height with a 10” mattress in a box is the perfect combination. Easy to climb in and out of and he sometimes goes to play there just for fun. Easy assembly according to my daughter who has put two together. Details are lifelike and sturdy construction with no sharp edges like my twin trundles. Perfect addition to his nursery(fits in a very small bedroom with crib and dresser) and suits my sleepover playroom as well!

My son LOVES this bed!!
Was looking for a new bed for my 5 year old and stumbled across this race car bed. He LOVES it! The bed can fit either a toddler sized bed or a twin which makes it easy to grow into. As far as assembly, it arrived in two boxes which were easy to lift. I was able to assemble it within in minutes without any help. If you have a little man into race cars and boy things, this is the perfect bed. It's worth every penny! I only wish I had found it sooner.

It’s sturdy and well thought out- I have no worries that little fingers may get caught and there’s no sharp edges to worry about. I absolutely love that it can be both a toddler bed and twin bed, but was originally concerned on what I would do with the extra pieces. Step2 actually thought this through and it came with a box to compactly store them! Genius and now I don’t have to worry about finding them when it’s time to upgrade. Very cool product and look forward to enjoying it for years to come.
