A: Hey Libby - Thank you for your interest in this ironing board. The piece that you are talking about holds the legs in place with the ironing board is in the folded position. This is not a modular piece, meaning it is not removable or replaceable. If you have a unit where this piece is not attached firmly to the board, then that board is defective and they will need a new one. That said, the board is completely usable in this state. But that black plastic piece should be attached. Hope this helps! - Josh

The ironing board is sturdy enough, but the cover and “pad” are cheap and thin. The pad on mine has grooves in it that crease my clothes as I’m ironing. Defeats the purpose!!

Broke after 3 uses. OK at best even while it worked.
After only three uses, it won't fold out and stay put anymore. I looked underneath and saw that there's this hook that's supposed to attach to the sliding mechanism underneath. It's meant to keep the legs folded out when the board is in use. This hook, from the factory, is sloppily smashed between two folded pieces of metal. If you yank hard enough on the ironing board (which isn't very hard), then that hook becomes dislodged and there is no way to get it back in between those two pieces of metal so that it will stay put. I attached a picture that shows what I mean. The board will open and close if I manually set the hook underneath each time, but I shouldn't have to do that. I have no choice now but to throw the whole board away and buy something that will last, as there's no way for me to permanently repair this.

Great ironing board for the price!
Read all the reviews but I was desperate and needed to iron a suit the same day so I took a chance. I didn’t have any issues with the board. For $32 I thought it was sturdy and worked great!

Item wasn’t ready as they said it would be. Rude employee stating they were slammed and busy , she didn’t work that area but suggested returning item. No employee should ever talk to a customer about their issues or use that as an excuse for not having an item ready. Next morning returned to store just to have to come back and return a damaged item. But this time both pick up and returned employee super nice and professional.

Poorly made
It's very hard to set up this ironing board. The very small handle 'gives' and the metal mechanisms make a sharp metal grinding noise. Same when you try to fold it. The legs do not snap smoothly into the clip, but have to be forced, again producing a grinding shrill noise.
