A: Yes, it's made with magnesium chloride and calcium magnesium acetate, which is less likely to cause irritation to skin/paws than sodium chloride, the ingredient most often used in ice melts. While less irritating than conventional ice melt products, care should be taken to ensure it is not ingested and it's always a good idea to wipe your pets paws to be extra safe.

A: Salt, along with the freeze and thaw cycle, can damage concrete, asphalt/flagstone. To minimize surface damage, use only enough Ice Melt to loosen snow or ice, and then promptly remove slush and ice from concrete surfaces. This product is to be used at the consumer’s risk of loss from damage to surfaces.

Poor shipping process
The product is an excellent product. I am upset that half the ice melt was spilled in the boxes during shipping. Why didn't the packers shrink-wrap each item so it would not spill out during transport! I would not recommend getting this item shipped!

Misleading product stating pet friendly in video
Misleading and very disappointed. In the video to this item, it states it is pet friendly. However, no where on the packaging does it state pet friendly. I should be returning this but I am handicap and these are 12lbs. I will give to my mom and neighbors for use.

I assume it works to melt ice (the chemical compound is the same as what I usually use from a competitor, if we get ice/snow before end of 2025, I'll edit it with info about that.) But, speaking on the things that made me hesitant to buy this from other comments, as of dec2025, item was shipped in displayed packaging, there were 2 strips of tape holding the lid to the jug, jug was placed in a large plastic bag (heavier grade than normal target plastic grocery store bag,) with the plastic bag zip tied closed. The item was cushioned in box with rest of my order (misc clothing, paper filler for cushioning. I will say that the lid as displayed has a lift up dispensing flap (which ig the tape was sealing) and it might be nice if manufacturer had some sealing around jug (or a full seal pulltab inside). If you have the option to buy in store, I'd probably recommend that just bc I can see failure points. For all that I talk about potential risk, I had no product leakage in transit. (I don't drive so the option is buy in store but then have to ride the bus home or gamble on shipping).

Half of it was in the box and not in the container. Target needs to do a better job with packaging products that are shipped. Arrived with the tops off of two of three the containers. I am afraid to open the other box to see the damage.

Poor packaging from Target.
Upon opening all 4 boxes, all of the ice melt containers lids were all off. Most of the ice melts were at the bottom of the box. From one box, all of the ice melts flew out as I was opening the box. Disappointed with how Target packed these items. No wrong with the item itself.
