Wonderful When It Works
This is my third Sony A/V Receiver in the last decade, and the least reliable. Audio sync issues, freezing during power ups, and no video glitches have plagued this purchase from the start. Even after two in-warranty repair attempts, the system randomly fails to start and requires a power reset to get going again. Unfortunately, the warranty doesn't offer replacement, only repair, which is lackluster, being returned in cosmetically damaged condition. After a year of trying to get this working as it should, I'm still stuck wondering if my next game or movie experience will be as intended. Firmware updates thus far have not solved these problems. If your unit actually works, then you're in for a treat. Being that this is a known issue with other users, my hope is that an update will bring out this receiver's intended performance.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback, LOmarG. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience with the STR-AN1000 A/V Receiver has been so frustrating, especially since you have been a loyal Sony AV Receiver customer for a decade. We sincerely apologize that this unit has been your "least reliable" and has been plagued by issues like audio sync problems, freezing during power-ups, and no video glitches from the start. We understand that two in-warranty repair attempts that did not fully resolve the issues, along with the reported cosmetic damage during return, are completely unacceptable and have failed to meet your reasonable expectations for service or product reliability. We regret that we have not provided the seamless performance you expect from our premium receivers. We take the matter of product reliability and repair quality very seriously. Since your issues—the random failure to start and the required power reset—are persisting, we would like to escalate your case internally for a second opinion and explore all possible options. While we cannot guarantee a specific outcome, we want to check if there is something else we can do. To allow us to investigate your complete service history and escalate this further, we kindly ask that you email us at socialsupport@am.sony.com with the following information: Name Username Model Number Telephone Number A detailed description of the current issue and your previous case number(s). Again, we are very sorry for the inconvenience, and we appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. Thank you for your loyalty and for bringing this critical feedback to our attention. We regret that we have failed to meet your expectations in this instance. Best regards, Gus, Sony Social Media Team

Popping Sound
I bought this item and Sony speaker system. I have a very loud popping sound when changing channels and during commercial breaks. I contacted support and they said this receiver has a relay inside that causes this when sound format changes. This can't be fixed. Always scares everyone when it pops. Don't buy this item. I regret buying it.

Hi Surround love, Thanks for reaching out and sharing your experience with the STR-AN1000 receiver. We're truly sorry to hear about the loud popping sound you're encountering when changing channels or during commercial breaks. Please accept our sincerest apologies for this inconvenience. We see you've already been in touch with support and they explained that this noise is related to a relay inside the unit that activates when the audio format changes. This is how the receiver is designed to handle those format shifts. While this specific noise is an inherent characteristic of this relay system and cannot be eliminated via a fix or update, we want to assure you that the receiver is operating as intended and there is no risk of damage to your speakers or the unit itself. We understand that knowing why it happens doesn't make the sound any less disruptive and we truly regret that this feature is causing you such disappointment with your purchase. Thanks for considering Sony. We value your feedback greatly. Sincerely, Estefany

Excellent product. documentation could be better
I love Sony products and have been a Sony customer for over 50 years. This receiver is a great product but the documentation is somewhat lacking. I have ended up calling Sony multiple times to complete setup. FYI fast setup is great as long as you do not have any issues. Resolution documentation is mostly online and can be contradictory and confusing.,

Good, but has some drawbacks for me.
Overall, it's a great receiver, but: No video on USB output. Had I known that, I would not have purchased the receiver. The equalizer does not select individual speakers, or change individual frequencies. The remote control has a weak signal, and has be aimed mainly at the receiver, very annoying.

Hi jercom, Thank you for sharing your feedback on your Sony STRAN1000 AV receiver. We are sorry to hear about your experience and we understand your concerns regarding the USB video output, the equalizer settings, and the remote control signal strength. The equalizer on this model is designed to adjust the overall sound profile rather than individual speakers or frequencies. We appreciate your feedback and will consider it for future product improvements. We understand that a weak remote control signal can be frustrating. Ensuring that there are no obstructions between the remote and the receiver and that the batteries are fully charged can help improve the signal strength. If you have any specific suggestions or features you'd like to see, feel free to share them with us. Your insights are important to us as we work to meet and exceed your expectations. Thanks for choosing Sony! -Sam

High End Hi Fidelity from the lows to the highs
Had another brands AVR that basically would only work with their proprietary app.i returned and decided to buy a Sony that would work with my Bravia 4K Android TV. Set-up was seamless from the internet to the speakers.

Great product with cons
I love it great sound, that being said this isn’t easy to set up with surround sound. It taxed my knowledge of electronics. Had trouble getting the rear speakers to work, the manual “ novel “ isn’t that clear to fallow. It took nearly 2 weeks to get it working the way I wanted. However now is working and sounding the way I want I’m in love with it.

The directions were of no help and even the settings used once attached to the tv explained noting either.

Excellent but one Flaw
The receiver is excellent but has one flaw. The Xbox or series x will not 4k pass through like the others. Fire stick and other cable boxes pass through at plug in. Xbox only pass 1080 off a 2023 receiver. That sucks. Sony need to fix ASAP.

Excellent Receiver
This is an excellent AV Reviever I bought to replace an earlier version that was suffering from old age after 5 1/2 years - and better replaced than repaired (it is hard to find someone who repairs them, unless still under warrantee). This Reciver has more capacity than I need, but it's solid with great specs and upgrade capcity to not only 4K but also 8K. It upgrades cable signals for an excellent video result AND audio. Easy to use. I had my Geek Squad (I'm a Total Care Member) set it up for me to include adding banana plugs to my speaker wires - I've wanted to do that. This Receiver has recently gone on sale - so there's no reason to settle for less. And it works seamlessly with my other Sony Products and my Spectrum Remote. I once had a tech friend in HS who worked on electronics ... he said when you open up a Sony product, it is obvious the build quality is a cut above everybody else. So I buy Sony. Jim

Fantastic with Bravia TV
Have owned numerous AV receivers over the years. The str-an1000 may not be the best one, but if you have a recent Sony Bravia OLED TV with center channel capability, it's great. The combination gives you a great surround sound setup without a bulky center speaker that can be difficult to place.

Reboots unexpectedly with a very loud thump
This nicely designed unit could be an excellent upgrade to my previous Sony home theater but, even with the latest firmware - every few days, this unit shuts down unexpectedly with a very loud thump scaring everybody in the house. Then it displays “Hello” and “Please wait”. One minute later it is operating ok.
