Q: What is the specific bobbin used in this machine?

  • A: The Singer model M1500 sewing machine uses the Transparent Class 15 bobbin only. Using the correct tools for a project is a must. This means, always use the type of bobbins that came with the machine, using an incorrect bobbin can disrupt a sewing machine's timing and could cause damage to the bobbin case system; this is true in all brands of sewing machines. If you are purchasing additional bobbins, make sure they are the correct ones.

  • A: No The Singer model M1500 sewing machine doesn't have a serging stitch pattern. We would recommend either the Singer model MX231 sewing machine or the Singer model M3500 sewing machine as both have one or more serger like stitch patterns. Of course a sewing machine will not trim the fabric as it sews the way a serger does without the use of a Side Cutter attachment.

  • A: The Singer model M1500 is a mechanical sewing machine. The Singer model M1500 sewing machine is constructed using a heavy duty metal frame with an exterior cover made of Duratek. This is the same material used for crash helmets, and other safety equipment. This outer shell makes the machine much easier to transport, while the metal frame preserves the machine's strength. Today’s sewing machines, regardless of brand, are all made with nylon gears. Based on research it has been determined that nylon gears are much more resistant than metal gears and will last much longer, resulting in more years of service for your sewing.

Great For Newbies!

I've never used a sewing machine in my life, but this is a very easy machine to use for repairing torn fabrics, etc. I highly recommend this product to beginners!

Good Sewing Machine

I recently purchased the Singer M1500 Sewing Machine. I looked at all the videos and thought I had followed them closely. A woman is vocally walking you through the steps. She expains everything except which side the thread should be on when you place the bobbin in the machine. The machine kept jamming, so I slowly watched all the videos again and it showed her moving the thread to the right side before she put the bobbin back in the machine. After I did that everything worked fine. I haven't had a lot of time to do a lot of projects, so I can't critique it a lot. But so far it seems like a good machine for the money. That video should be updated so other people won't have the same problem.

Its only 6 stitch not 57!! False advertising!

First of all the description is a lie! This machine only has 6 stitch not 57!!??! It’s very very tiny! Returning it! Oh and it was delivered a block away! Thankfully I have great neighbors and they came and dropped it off.

Not what I expected

This was my first ever sewing machine, so you can imagine how excited I was, but it was a real disappointment… this machine jammed SO much, it’s not even funny. I’ve tried everything: rewinding, carefully placing, wax, conditioner, quality thread, easy fabrics— nothing worked. I wasn’t learning with this machine at all, so I finally returned it will all my disappointment. (Side note: the pedal sensitivity has very poor control. Lightly pressing just makes a whirring sound, pressing a little harder and the machine bolts.) Anyway, I really wouldn’t recommend this machine to anyone, especially someone trying to learn.

Always Had Singers

The machine works well but putting the bobbin in the bobbin case was not as easy as they claim. Also not used to the levers being plastic. It’s good for a basic machine.

Missing some features

I recently bought this machine when my last singer died (31 years old). I was in the middle of a project and didn't do lost of research. Purchased this model best of recommendations from my quilting cousin. Sews find but missing key features from my old model: right needle position and top loading bobbin. Returned and bought model HD6380. So far so go.

Beware

DO NOT BUY. This is absolutely the worst sewing machine imaginable. My needle has already snapped in half, I’ve had to take apart the machine to undo a snag TWICE, and the treads constantly come undone during sewing. I would never recommend.

Incorrect Description, But a Good Machine

I've just started using mine, but so far it seems like a nice smaller machine thats very beginner friendly because it doesn't have too many bells and whistles. My one complaint is that the description of the machine is not correct-the description lists over 50 different stitches in multiple places, but it can only do 12 different stitches (the ones you can see on the wheel in the pictures). As far as I can tell, that's the only thing that is incorrect in the description and it's still a good machine, but it is something to be aware of.

On the Singer web page for the Singer model M1500 sewing machine, below the description, under "Specifications" it indicates what a Stitch Application is and the number of applications as well as the number of Built-in Stitches. The 6 Built-in stitch patterns are capable of 57 stitch applications. A Stitch Application is a singular sewing technique that can be accomplished with a given stitch pattern. There are some stitch selections that will have several different sewing techniques that are possible. Some other stitches will have only one or a few sewing techniques that can be done.
