Scotch Permanent Double Sided Tape with a Tape Dispenser is a photo-safe, back to school essential that offers a neat, clean, strong and long-lasting way to discreetly hold items together. Q: This tape says it is photo safe, but it is not acid free. If not acid free, wont it ruin photos?

A: Great Question! The Scotch Permanent Double Sided Tape is photo safe because it passed the Photographic Activity Test, widely known as the PAT, in an International Standard - ISO 18916. The Photographic Activity Test (PAT) is an industry-standard test that uses fading, spotting or staining detectors to evaluate whether enclosure materials, inks and adhesives are safe to use with silver photographic images. As of 1997, this test is done on negatives, as well as the fronts and backs of both color and black & white photographic prints. Products which pass this test will not damage or change the image on negatives or photographic prints. 3M has this testing done by an independent laboratory. We hope this helps!

Double sided tape splits
I use this double sided tape to mount photos and have multiple dispensers since I use it a lot. However, recently, while using this tape, the very beginning of the roll, the tape splits and I end up unable to restart the roll. I tried several different times trying to free up an end to start using these rolls again. Very disappointing.

There IS NO protective layer to hold you back!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Scotch Double-sided tape!!We have the need for this product most often for our two school-aged kids/teens who are constantly making posters, projects, etc. so much easier, cleaner and neater-looking than glue; it’s more adhesive than glue sticks (with which things are often lifting or falling off by morning); and it’s just all-around better than making little “tape-donuts” with regular Scotch tape . The Haters (14% 1-star reviews) are LITERALLY WRONG in their assessments, almost all complaining of a protective film/layer that is impossible to remove… well, THERE IS NO PROTECTIVE FILM, so I guess that’s why it’s impossible!😅. On each new roll, there is a lead-in section of “tape” that is not sticky (or maybe sticky on just one side?). When starting a new roll, you have to pull out enough tape to expose the thinner, two-sided, sticky part. Once that’s exposed, you use the built-in, serrated edge to cut off the thick, non-stick section; from there, you just use the tape like a regular roll! SO EASY! Although we use it mostly for school projects, it has come in handy for so many other applications, e.g., cupcake picks, party decorations, labels, etc. It’s one of those things you might not realize will be so useful…but then uses just pop up and you’re so glad you have it.😊

Unusable.
This was a waste of money. I literally could not peel off the protective layer at all, so it was one sided tape, that didn't even seem to stick to anything anyway! What a disappointment.

Double sided tape wont peel protective layer
Can't separate the non-stick layer. I've waste 1/2 a roll trying to peel off the protective layer

Don't listen to all the 1* reviews. This tape does exactly what it's supposed to do...if you read the directions. Just tear off the first 8-10" and then you'll find the double sided tape lol! I used it around the top of a fish tank to keep my cat from jumping up on it and it couldn't have been more perfect for the job. It's sticky without being annoyingly so and goes on completely clear.

The concern can be rectified by first unrolling the protective wrap/leeder that has writing on it, pull passed the writing about an inch, cut off and dispose of this portion as it is not double-sided tape and not part of the overall quoted roll length. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Worst double sided tape. The protective film is IMPOSSIBLE to remove. DO NOT PURCHASE.

To initially start the roll of our Scotch® Double Sided Tape, there is a protective wrap that is about 8 inches long. Just pull the tape out about 8 inches and use the cut blade on the dispenser to cut the tape. Throw that 8 inches of tape in the garbage. Now you can begin using the double sided tape. As the protective wrap is clear, you will probably not be able to see where the double sided tape begins and where the wrap ends, so you will just have to touch the top of the tape to make sure you have both sides of the adhesive exposed. This protective wrap is not included in the listed dimensions of the tape, the tape length starts from the point where the protective wrap ends. Thank you!

Non-starter
I bought this tape yesterday to mount some photographs. After half an hour, I had to give up. It was impossible to remove the protective lining.
