Book Synopsis
Here is the can't-miss overview of the punk rock scene from its early inception in the seventies in New York and the UK. Includes chapters on The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and more. Punk was also the flex point for women in rock that paved the way for the Riot Grrrl movement like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Blondie, The Runaways, Patti Smith and The Slits. Flashing the finger against the slick corporate rock of the '70s, punk was faster, messier, and louder than anything before it. Covered here with the same raw energy, look, and attitude as the music itself!
Review Quotes
"Right from the start you can feel the energy." --Richard Vasseur, First Comics News
"A fun and informative read from cover to cover." --James A. Cox, Midwest Book Review
"Punk was driven by everything from anti-consumerism and non-conformity to anti-authoritarianism, nihilism, and a do-it-yourself ethic that prompted artists, writers, and designers to push all boundaries of self-expression in their search for authenticity. Those principles are reflected in these pages time and again, from the vibrant table of contents down to the selective discography in its closing pages." --Lindsay Pereira, Broken Frontier
"Obviously a passion project, Punk Rock in Comics was eye-opening and educational, and best of all, gave me a slew of new bands and records to check out." --Jason Morehead, My Cultural Diet
