Idea: Good; Execution: Not So Good
I'm always on the lookout for hidden gems at ridiculuously low prices, and this seemed to fit the bill. Hunting season is about to be in full effect, with nighttime hunting legal. I am interested in a furbearer, and thought I would try these for nighttime spotting. There are two major drawbacks to using this optic at night, in pursuit of - or even passively in receipt of - nocturnal wildlife. The first is, it's loud. The buttons are plastic and make your typical clicking noise when they are pushed. So if you see your prized furbearer under the moonlit sky and choose to use this optic to better spot it, the first button you push - no matter which one it is - it will be loud enough to spook an already spooked nighttime recluse. The second is the amount of light the emits from the viewfinder, is enough to light up my entire face. That's not a good look when spotting furbearers at night in the dark. What this optic could use is one of those black hoods the NFL referees put over their heads when analyzing replays, so no prized furbearer could see my face. I found the SD card slot a bit flimsy, nothing out of the ordinary either, but not a good look having to use a swiss army knife to pop the card out. The technology seems okay, except I kept getting "Memory error" after it formatted my SD card for it. Every time I turned it on with the SD card in the slot, I got a startup message that read, "Insert Memory Card" - which threw me off for a solid 10 minutes because I thought it wasn't reading my new card. Turns out, it does it every time regardless, and you just have to push one of those loud buttons to make it go away and lighten up your whole face in the dark for all of your backyard vermin and furbearers to laugh at!! I'm returning mine and just investing in something more substantial. Not that a hidden gem at a ridiculously low price doesn't exist, but calling this a gem might be a stretch. Overall, I was not satisfied with my purchase and would likely not recommend it to my friends and relatives.
