Now it's late summer, and the garden has grown into an abundance of beautiful vegetables. Ms. Greenthumb gathers them into her large basket and heads for her kitchen. "What's going on? Why are we leaving the garden?"

The vegetables are very unhappy; the beans and the peas don't like being on the bottom of the basket and they don't like the dirt dropping on them. As they're being cleaned, scrubbed, and prepared for the vegetable platter and blanching, Benny Bean screams, "HOT, HOT, HOT! Take us out of here!"

They cry and yell but soon find out they're going to a party. "Party! We're going to a party?" The vegetables are now so excited! They can't wait to see who is going to get picked off the platter first!
