Alder wood and has nice grain

This mantle came unfinished and I simply used an acrylic clear matte sheen sealer, very light sanding, then polished with a good coat of Howards citrus shield wax, and it’s impervious to everything, and it’s beautiful. Level, drill, and four screws.
