Description

Help young stargazers discover the wonders of science and space with this LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Space Exploration Telescope (31378) toy building set for boys and girls ages 8 and up. Kids can engage in hours of pretend play as they build 3 different STEM toys from 1 set of LEGO bricks. Young builders can create an adjustable telescope on a tripod with a solar system model featuring the sun and 7 planets that spin. This can be rebuilt into an adjustable microscope or a UFO model with posable antennae and legs that flip out for display. Each buildable space toy includes a light brick with batteries, which kids activate by pushing a button to project images from the telescope onto a surface, illuminate images on the microscope, or beam a light from underneath the UFO. The set includes 3 interchangeable decorated lenses—containing images of a planet, star, and the Moon—to project from the telescope or view inside the microscope. Once built, any of the models can double as kids' bedroom decor. Only one model can be built at a time. Makes an exciting birthday gift or anytime present for kids who love STEM toys and creative play. The LEGO Builder app provides easy-to-follow instructions where kids can save sets, track progress, and zoom in to rotate models in 3D while building. Contains 278 pieces.

Q: Is this for a 5 year old boy?

submitted by Di - 17 days ago
  • A: Great question! This set is recommended for ages 8+ as it uses some more advanced building techniques. That said, if a 5-year-old has building experience and enjoys LEGO sets with a bit of challenge, it could still be fun with some adult help. Building together can make it a great shared activity. - Imaan, LEGO® Customer Service

Q: Do the planets move?

submitted by Ali - 1 month ago
  • A: Hi there! Yes, you can spin the planets and sun around as a group. The planets can also be rearranged on their own into different positions around the sun. - John, LEGO® Customer Service

Great date night activity

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a very cute mini Lego set. My partner and I love doing things like this when we have a date night in. This setup in particular can be formed into three different things! It also comes with a light brick, so fun! It’s not overly challenging but still a reliably good time putting together. They’re legos so you know the materials are durable and because it’s easy to store these, we can’t wait to put this in our case next to our other Lego creations.

Felt cheap and fell apart with too much pressure

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love that you can build three different things, but I feel like the quality is off. I am saddened by the lack of structural integrity as the telescope since it collapsed when I was assembling it. This made it feel cheap.

A fantastic set for a space fan-child!

The Lego creator sets are just fantastic for tiny hands but I want to take a moment to also appreciate how fabulous they are for not so little hands too, aka mine. This one I did a pre-order because it came with the option to build a telescope, microscope or a space ship. If you choose to build a telescope you also have blocks to build a small solar system. We are a bit big on this now at home and that is putting it very mildly. It is a very easy build to do jointly, and though not for a toddler or preschooler to do alone, typically, it is one that demands less of them to do jointly and the rewards immense. It has my favourite light block and there are a couple of slides to project a star, moon and Saturn/Uranus (I must hurriedly add) based on orientation. Highly recommend Creator sets for their versatility and I especially recommend this for any budding scientists :)

Fun interactive 3 STEM builds in 1 kit

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Lego Space Exploration Telescope was a joy to build! It took two adults several hours, and we love the light interaction for the telescope that lets you project images from the telescope. Even better, this is a 3-in-1 kit so we can easily take it apart and rebuild as a microscope or UFO. This is a great build set with a STEM focus and we highly recommend for kids and adults of all ages.

Great product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love everything about it. It keeps kids busy and they can learn how to do something by themselves, in a long winter evening. My son loved it. He's still working on it, and I'm very happy about it. It's nice model, easy enough to put together. Package is nice looking and installation wise accurate and esy to understand. It's a descent size, not to small not to overwhelmingly huge. I'm very pleased.

Fun LEGO set!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This 3-in-1 LEGO set offers a UAP, microscope, and telescope, making it a versatile and entertaining choice. I thoroughly enjoyed building it, finding it easy and enjoyable. The addition of a lighting feature adds a charming touch. LEGO has truly elevated its game, and this set is a worthy investment. It makes an excellent gift for a loved one or a treat for yourself if you’re a space enthusiast.

Definitely has all the planets!

I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on buying this because they they think it's not scientifically accurate! The description is 100% wrong, the solar system has: (1) Mercury (2) Venus (3) Earth and Moon (4) Mars (5) Jupiter (6) Saturn (7) Uranus (8) Neptune (9) Pluto. Regardless of whether you want to have the completely separate argument about the status of Pluto, that's what's in the model. And it's great!

Lego creator space

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] LEGO creator space is such a fun and creative build . These pieces are easy to work with and the space theme is really very exciting. I love how we can build different models from one set which makes it feel like great value. My son enjoys it a lot and loved spending time building and rebuilding it. Is perfect for creativity and little space adventure at home.

Really good set but disappointed on smart brick

Had a very good building experience but i was slightly disappointed by the light brick function, the pictures are a bit dim and blurry even in darkness and hope lego moves on from the recent trend of smart bricks. Otherwise the functionality is very good the planets and alignment are amazing to showcase im glad LEGO included pluto.

Only 7 Planets?

The set is really cool and as a space enthusiasts and NASA LEGO collector, I was thrilled to have it as apart of my collection. However, upon receiving the set, I could only identify 7 planets as part of the model. The LEGO description on the set also reinforced that only 7 planets are included. With that in mind, our solar system contains 8 planets. That means that a celestial body was either left out of the build or the description is incorrect. Either way, that makes the orrery version of this build not scientifically accurate. It’s also not a good teaching tool if there is no verifiable reason for a missing planet.

Such an awesome Lego set! I love how all the pieces fit together and move, the planets are so cute, and the telescope with a light to shine the slides is so cool. We haven’t even tried the other designs yet, we may need to buy more for the others. Awesome!

So cool

For it being a 3 in 1, I didn’t expect much but it was such a fun build! So cool that it comes with a light as well.
