Large Winter Scene Tray - Room Essentials™

I’m not sure how I didn’t realize the size of this but I love the large size for our cabin coffee table. It has a soft matte finish and a compelling design I admire many times a day. Becuase it’s a winter scene and not specifically Christmas, I will leave this out much longer as well. I was sure this would sell out, so I think I ordered quickly and never looked at the measurements. I pictured it was like a jewelry tray, what a pleasant surprise!

When I bought this, I intended to use it as my "day off" tray, to be used on days off from work where I eat in my bedroom or on the couch while watching TV. I had another tray like this from Target that lasted 5 years, but it recently broke. I don't use this to literally put food directly on it. I put food that's already in/on dishes on this. However, if I'm not mistaken, it's okay to serve cold items directly on this. I wouldn't put anything "greasy" on it; as in, I wouldn't use it as a charcuterie board for meats and cheeses. It should be okay to serve cookies (that have cooled down) on it, or to serve wrapped candies, etc. I think the main reason Target put that this tray is not food-safe is because someone will put scorching hot food on it and wonder why warped, etc., and then try to sue Target. It's just like when people recommend not to store oily food in regular plastic containers or to cut meat on wooden cutting boards, but some people still do it. You just kind of have to use discretion. I'm thinking about getting either another one of these trays or the smaller one for when I do origami or beads or other crafts.

So cute but not very useful as sticker and online listing state "Decorative Use Only-Not for Food or Drink Service". Would have gave more stars if it was made to actually be used. Target should have considered why anyone would want a tray they can only look at.

I passed by this tray and couldn’t pass up this ideal winter snow/ski lodge scene. Love the vintage illustration style & colors + the size of the tray. I will use this when I go to holiday parties & for my friends annual cookie exchange. At this price, it would be a really nice gift to leave behind if your friend likes the same style. I double checked that it is ok to put food on this melamine tray.

Thought this would work great for a holiday cookie tray. Got it home to find out it is not to be used for food. Maybe something that looks that much like a food tray should say very BOLDLY that it is decorative only. Very disappointed!
