Pick a different hunt a killer

We have done multiple hunt a killer games and love them but this one was horribly executed. Nothing lines up and even the clues that we solved do not add up. Hunt a killer games a general awesome but I promise you’ll be happier choosing an other version of the game

I'm glad I bought it on clearance. The difficulty level of this definitely feels off. There are 3 main puzzles to solve and while we identified each easily enough, we could not put them together for the solution without reading through more than half of the online hints. We have completed multiple in person and out of the box escape rooms / murder mysteries, so we aren't novices. 2 stars for the high production value of the online components and props, but you destroy some of the components while playing, so this is game is one and done, and you're left with a bunch of knick knacks.

I am a big HAK fan, and have solved many of these crimes. It felt like this had a lot of extraneous information, yet some of the clues we were supposed to put together.. we would have never thought of from a logic standpoint. We got to the right thing, but it was an educated guess

I don’t leave reviews but this really disappointed me and my friend. I like hunt a killer they are generally pretty fun always a good bit of reading and I was particularly excited about this one because sam and Colby. The puzzles were terrible like one of the puzzles you can’t read once you do the task for it when you are suppose to be able to. It’s honestly was a bummer. The incorporation of the sound machine was rough as well. The one thing I liked out of it was the planchet which I will be keeping but the rest of it was for the birds.

not just a board game

I got this for my kids for Christmas and we went to play with it and it requires a lot before you play. like cleansing the space and it has a spirit box, planchette and crystal. we never played bc my kids got too scared. I think it is for the person who wants interactions and my children thought it was like clue. well we were disappointed others might not be.

awful!

I bought this game half off and was super excited to play with my kids. we have done several other escape room box games and I expected it to be somewhat similar. It was not! after I read everything, which took forever, the game was pretty much over. we knew the solution right away. plus, you destroy a piece so you can't resell it or pass it on. straight to the trash. what a waste.

There was a lot of reading that wasn’t necessary to figure out the name. It was a lot of filler and for people who have played harder ones I think you expected more. My sisters fist to hint a killer and she was bored. I think the supernatural angle was super cool BUT I feel like it missed the mark. My sisters BF figured it out but following a clue that wasn’t even the correct clue….very disappointed. LOVE to hunt a killer. I have played 4 already. And LOVE Sam and Colby. Lame game tho

DO NOT BUY

As a fan of the Hunt a Killer series, this collaboration was a complete failure. The story starts off interesting enough and deviates from the usual murder suspect mystery by trying out a haunting but it fails in the end. Without spoilers, one of the instructions requires you to destroy a piece of evidence rendering the box useless if you want to play again (or you would have to use the online resource in its place). Not only that but you also have a ghost communication box that has no on and off switch so you have to take the batteries out by unscrewing the back panel to turn it off when you're done playing. Even in solving the mystery, the epilogue is so vague and unsatisfying. This box should be discontinued and never made again. Absolutely awful. Probably the worst Hunt a Killer box they've ever made (and I've played almost all of them).

Worst game ever. Boring and dumb!

This is the dumbest game I have ever played. My husband and I wasted over an hour of our time reading useless information with no value to the game and for absolutely no fun. This game can also only be played 1x so you can't even share it with a friend or resell. I would never recommend this. We can see why it's on clearance. Do not waste your money.

Worst HaK set out there - BEWARE

I don’t think I’ve ever left a review on anything before in my life, but I just RAN to come post this after finishing this kit. I’ve been playing HaK games for the last 4 years. I have never been more disappointed with one of their box sets as I am right now. I was so excited when I bought this! Especially because it’s a paranormal set, how fun, right? Right? WRONG! A piece of evidence was destroyed before I could interpret it, the voice box has no off switch so you have to use a tiny screwdriver to undo the battery compartment. There’s a lot of reading, sure, but that’s typical for HaK. But there’s a lot of reading of questionable cursive handwriting. If you’re colorblind, well, that sucks for you lol. If I could rate this 0 stars, I would. Go with ANY of the other sets, not this one. I’m still so mad that a piece of evidence was destroyed before I could get to it properly. The planchette is cool though. That’s going on a shelf for display.

Initially excited then severely disappointed

My daughter and I love escape games. I bought this and couldn't wait to play it. The back story was interesting. I read through the instructions and started the games. It quickly became a game of reading and waiting. There were several items in the box and honestly we only needed two things to solve the puzzle, leaving us confused what all the other items were for. Are they supposed to be red herrings. I would not recommend this game.

There's way better mystery games out there. I was super excited for this one because it was our Octobe date night and had the spooky vibe. The rules don't explain that you have to use the online website for clues to get full picture so we were also stuck for a bit. But once we got the ball rolling it was just disappointing for what could have been a super cute and spooky game.

Sheer disappointment

The Hunt A Killer site referred us to Target for the autographed Sam X Colby mystery and guess what it was not the autographed game. I was super excited to get it for my collection and then was super disappointed when I picked it up.

Spooky Escape Room in a Box

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It took me a while to complete this review because it was tough finding people who would play and stick with it. First attempt my boyfriend bailed during the first few minutes. I tried again with a group of friends and we at did get through to solving the mystery! Great concept, high quality pieces and sturdy packaging. I liked the variety of game components from the online videos to physical tools to realistic looking documents. Really well done. Where we got tripped up even the 2nd time was on the lengthy intro information. There was a ton of pre-reading, so you really have to do this with a group of people who are fully committed, open minded, patient, willing to get a little lost, and into puzzles like escape rooms. The game is rated “easy” on the box and they did have multiple ways to get to the answer, but it still took us about an hour and some hints. It’s set up as a single use game, but you could feasibly use it more than once. Cool concept, would be fun for a dinner party or family holiday!

HORRIBLE. Save your money!!!! Even on sale it's not worth the money at all.

I got this as a date night at home for spooky season. The organization of this was horrible. It is the first HAK game we have ever purchased. Not sure if we will purchase any other. I do not recommend spending any amount of money on this.

Good but not worth getting waste of money

It’s exciting at first but once you find the demon name it’s boring. It’s a game where you play once then leave on a shelf. The demon name is so easy it took me along time but it’s like right in front of your eyes. To see the demon name you need to have good vision and be good at reading cursive. The ghost reader kept going off aswell and it was screwed on good thing I had a skrewdriver to get the batteries out. I love Sam and Colby but this is only good to buy if you want something with their face on it. Or if you play it then pass it onto a friend type of thing and so on. Giving my honest opinion since a lot of people don’t do that hope this helps!

Yikes

We’ve done every HAK box and this is - by absolute far- the worst one. Usually, you need all the items to put together a solution. Here, you only needed one. Ripped the batteries out of the box before we threw the game away because the voice is both creepy and useless. We’re actually still laughing about how bad this box was. The amount of reading was wild and sadly, mostly useless. Do literally any other HAK before this one because this does not give you a real taste of the series.

Not impressed

This is the worst in the hunt a killer games that we've played. The majority of the clues are irrelevant. There should be multiples of the dissolving clue because it was difficult to read. There's not much of a story you're literally only looking for the demons name.
