Book Synopsis

This edited volume provides a contemporary reappraisal of the work and legacy of Hugh MacDiarmid, presenting new perspectives from an international group of researchers. Addressing pivotal elements of MacDiarmid's biography, politics, aesthetics and multilingual literary practice, this collection contextualises his writing within current critical discussions and evolving perceptions of modernism, nationalism, and cultural identity. The essays illuminate the complexities and continuities of MacDiarmid's career, reassessing his contribution to twentieth-century literature and its relevance today. This volume is suitable for scholars, students, and informed readers, and it promotes renewed academic engagement with one of Scotland's most influential and controversial literary figures.
