Q: Why on earth do the plates now have grey text on the actual food surface?

A: Mostly for marketing purposes. I don't think it's smart at all to put ink on a surface you eat from. Especially since hot food will dissolve it.

A: Glossy, yes. Package says recyclable, and "commercially compostible only". Bought these thinking they weren't waxed and I could compost them in my back yard.
