Not the best for small hands
The quality of these are very nice, but I really wish the connection was magnetic or Velcro. It’s actually very hard for a toddler to “chop” these veggies and fruits apart with the toy knife given. It takes a lot of pressure and very good already developed motor skill to get the knife line up just right in order for the tots to actually come apart. As other people have said, the preferred method of play is just pulling apart and putting back together. I personally would have rather spent money on a set with Velcro or magnets if I knew where to find those.

My 15mth old loves playing with this set. They really enjoy pulling apart the pieces and sticking them together in mismatched ways. They have a little shopping cart as well and fill it with the food items. The basket is mostly used for carrying around our Mrs Rachel doll. Durable qualty. They are not a chewer on items but they will bring the food up to their mouth and cover it with a bit of drool.

Big Hit with my 17 months old.
My son LOVES these fruits and veggies. We have been working on using the knife that comes with it to cut them and he thinks it is the coolest thing. He struggles a little to get them back together but once he figures it out it shouldnt be hard at all. Some people reviewed they don't go back together well but I found they do. You do have to twist and push them for a snug fit. I cant wait to get a play kitchen so he can really start exploring more with these. I honestly think this is the best play food I've ever seen.
