Book Synopsis

Ace Li kissed his best friend Akash Patel at the end of his freshman year. The day after, Akash moved away without a word just like Ace's mom. And Ace was broken. He stopped eating, wishing he'd become smaller.

Now a senior, Ace is a promising debater who swims every morning. He's stable again. But then he hears Akash is back because his journalist mom has gone missing while investigating corruption in their town.

Ace wants another chance with Akash, and when he finds her journalist notes, he sees his opening. If he can find her, maybe he can recover one lost mother and win Akash's heart.

But the people Radhika was investigating are dangerous. And as Ace falls into the story, his stable life begins to crumble. Winning Akash's heart might cost him everything, and maybe that's a sacrifice he's willing to make.

About the Author

Monica Chin (any pronouns) is a journalist focused on business, technology, and their intersections with social justice. Monica is currently a business editor at the Korea JoongAng Daily, and their work has appeared in publications including Mashable, Marketwatch, Business Insider, and Tom's Guide. They spent four years as a senior writer at The Verge, during which they wrote one of Pocket's Best Stories of 2021 and were nominated, alongside their colleagues, for a 2023 National Magazine Award in the General Excellence category. They studied Literary Arts at Brown University and graduated with honors in Creative Writing.
