Book Synopsis
This first monograph of work by architect Tatsuro Miki reflects his singular talent for designing spaces that embody subtle beauty, harmony, and proportion in close kinship with nature.
The importance of light, harmonious space based on balanced proportions and nature, as well as the essential function of interstitial areas such as the porch, corridor, and meditative space, combine in Tatsuro Miki's architectural works. They exude a fundamental sense of consonance and well-being. The use of natural materials--both old and new--with their intrinsic textures, the precise assembly of these elements inspired by various cultures and civilizations, and influences drawn from both East and West all blend together to form the essence of his creations. This exquisite art book is a tribute to Miki's architectural quest--an ongoing pursuit that traverses diverse places and time periods--to shape spaces that resonate with the very heart of our humanity.
For more than a decade, Miki has collaborated on projects around the world with Axel Vervoordt. Together, they have explored fundamental principles including wabi, which culminated in their seminal book Wabi Inspirations.
Drawing on key aspects from his childhood in Japan as the son of an architect-restorer, along with his European education and global practice, Miki fuses a multiplicity of aesthetics and influences into his resolutely international architecture.
