A: DE is a fine powder from fossilized algae, rich in silica, used for pest control, as a natural abrasive (toothpaste), food additive for dryness/pest, and soil, with "food grade" suitable for ingestion

Dries quickly but stains easily
It does allow sponges to dry quickly and is attractive when new, but it stains terribly and looks nasty within a few months. It stains and nothing will get it clean. I've tried Magic Eraser, baking soda mixters, scotchbrite and many other. Only get it if you don't care if it looks gross or will be storing it out of sight. I bought 2 of these and they both stained badly within a month. Also the rubber pad on the foot came off withing a few months.
